Welcome to the creative world of Alan Berry Rhys, a talented graphic artist, illustrator and fine artist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Vintage graphic advertising inspires his work. Alan’s big, bold shapes, retro notes, strong colours, unique texture, and lettering with hints of fun elements, give his work a distinctive characteristic. In search of inspiration from the simpler life he often explores craftsmanship lifestyles, such as those of fishermen, axemen, butchers and carpenters. He also enjoys exploring popular street graphics.
Using screen-printing, risograph and painting, he has developed a unique style based on low quality printing methods of early graphic advertising, while often incorporating unique lettering and typography.
Alan has worked on many high profile advertising campaigns, including a wide range of commercial and commissioned works for well known brands, including Jack Daniel's, Absolut Vodka, Nike, Puma, Sol Beer, Cinzano, Vans, Oreo, Good Year, Penguin, California Customs, Pilgrim London, BlackFin, Gravedad Zero.
Many of Alan’s pieces have an appealing vintage-made-modern look often rendered in vivid colours, and sometimes rendered with a sophisticated limited pallet. Alan is talented at understanding briefs in depth and he takes pride in providing appropriate visual solutions, whether they be for a campaign, a book cover, or an editorial project.
Alan has been a graphic design professor at Buenos Aires University for 8 years. As an artist, he has mounted several solo shows in London, Buenos Aires, Rosario (Argentina), San Francisco and Santiago de Chile. He has also participated in several combined shows in Portland, Buenos Aires, Tandil (Argentina) and Asunción (Paraguay). He has been invited to the last 3 editions of Puma Urban Art in Buenos Aires.
