BATWOMAN l S02E17 - “Kane, Kate”
Batwoman 2x17 - Kane, Kate
i really appreciate the gay jokes
Bat v Bat, part 2 (part 1 here)
Circe!Kate is implacable and a force of nature and with a mask like Mike Myers its almost like she's a supernatural force too.
(I've no doubt by the end of the season Ryan will be equal to Kate in terms of fighting. Especially, if Circe!Kate's mental state will breakdown as inner!Kate will fight to come back to herself).
But right now, Kate is dominant fighter but Ryan is a scrappy fighter and she was true to her word: Angelique and Ocean were able to get away because Kate couldn't get through her.
It seems crazy to me that the next Batwoman episode is the s2 finale! Ugh I feel like there's still so much left to explore especially with Circe!Kate and Safiyah and Luke, Mary, Jacob in prison and Ryan trying to stop Circe!Kate, without the suit no less. I just feel the previous episodes have flown in and I'm not ready for it to be over! 😭
Bat vs Bat - Batwoman 2x12, (part 2)
This scene was so iconic and I had chills when they finally shared a scene together. Also it's a damned good fight scene, the fight choreography this season has improved by leaps and bounds.
There's not a lot of shaky cam happening and a lot of wide shot scenes that remind me of John Wick/Atomic Blonde movies.
Also, without her morality holding her back Kate Kane is a brutal fighter.
Things I learned today: Both Javicia Leslie and Wallis Day are trained in Muay Thai and they filmed the awesome fight scene on Wallis's first day.
Kudos to both!
I just wanted to point out the way Wallis Day is playing Circe pretending to be Kate, when Circe was reading the letter Kate wrote to Sophie and got to the part where Kate admitted she loved Sophie.
Look at the look on Circe’s face:
The calculation on her face, she’s assessing Sophie. Another chess piece in Circe’s little game.
Sophie’s so happy because all she’s ever wanted was honesty between them, especially now that she’s not hiding anything.
Sophie’s dreamed of this moment and it’s finally here, except things aren’t all as it seems and with a snap, Circe takes it all away.
And then Circe does this:
The look on Sophie’s face:
Kate’s going to return to a lot of wreckage in her life.
And I don’t know if Sophie’s ever going to look at Kate’s new face and not remember this moment.
I also want to appreciate that when properly motivated, Alice herself is a one woman army. I mean, this was the scene that greeted Batwoman when she arrived at the scene:
It's just really Alice doesn't like fighting herself when other people can fight for her: see Alice and Kate breaking into Arkham.
OMG. Is this. Is this episode also kind of paralleling that episode when Alice worked with another Batwoman... and Kate was wearing a mask? And in the end, Kate left Alice behind??? (This Show!).
I do love seeing Alice and Ryan work together, especially since Ryan (rightly) hates Alice's guts. Alice is magnetic and charming but she's also an unrepentant murderer. Ryan shouldn't be expected to forgive her or to ever forget that Alice was the reason her mom is dead.
But also, shifting gears, can we talk about how much Kate on to herself until the last second before Enigma erased her memories and superimposed Circe onto her:
And the next we see of Kate is the vengeful and brutal masked Circe Sionis.
(So the real Circe died during the escape of the Arkham inmates and in the whole mess, somehow Circe didn't make it out. Kate wasn't directly responsible for Circe's death but Roman blamed Kate nonetheless).
Also both Batwomen are masked when they meet and it's just, I love everything about this episode.
