There's a certain degree of charm Hakkai ascribes to that bold impertinence against the idea of impossibility.
It reminds him more than a little of his own companions, steadfast and stubborn as they are. None of them have the tendency Brant does to speak such things outright, though Hakkai can imagine all three of them having their own little ways of conveying that sentiment; So what if it's impossible? We just have to do it.
Charming, indeed.
Hakkai is the realist among them, but even he often falls prey to the spiteful pattern of behavior involving proving his detractors wrong through whatever means necessary. And Brant is more of a classical optimist, from what Hakkai's seen—his fervor probably doesn't come from a place of self-satisfying spite.
"Let me guess," he interjects. "They said it couldn't be done, so you defied fate itself to reach your goal? Or something equally dramatic; I'm not really one for poetry."
His response takes the form of a tease, but a gentle one. There isn't a single situation in which Hakkai would dare mock someone's steadfast resolve, after all, even if that person carries themself in a manner which makes teasing seem remarkably easy.
Jeep shifts on his shoulder, letting out a quiet noise of what Hakkai interprets as support for his little jest.
"You have an admirable sense of resolve, if so." Without changing anything about his demeanor, Hakkai delivers a sincere compliment. "The sort of personality people write stories about—though I'm sure you must get that a lot."
