Hey Jasper, do you have any thoughts on how one might preserve the energy of a gathering? Like, charging an item with the ambient energy at a concert or some other high energy event to use later.

Other than "put it in a rock", I got nothing. I don't tend to, well, gather energy from those sorts of things. Maybe @windvexer or my other pals have better ideas? Or at least more advice.

Hi Jasper!

Re: Your post on clear communication, what kind of spell methods would you use or recommend for that purpose?

This is a complicated answer because my understanding of magic is pretty drastically different from other people's understanding of magic.

But what I, personally, would use? Mercury (the planet) energy, the Swords suit, the element of Air, the color Blue in MTG, and literal radios (because I'm an amateur radio operator). Anything else in the casting process or supplementing it will have to be dug out of my work-in-progress correspondence binder.

Regarding the method used for casting, well...a lot of my go-to methods are either banishing/destruction or holding things in place. Perhaps a candle spell, a sigil, or just regular energy movement? Maybe a spell bag if I'm on the go and need to keep it with me, like if I'm going to the National CERT Conference and want that with me.

Ultimately, this is what I would do. This is not going to work in a lot of the more...specific magic frameworks that people follow? I'm a pop culture/chaos wizard with the barest toe-dip of Ozark folk magic, so Wiccans, ceremonial magicians, actual folk practitioners, and so on and so forth will have other ideas and other recommendations. Nothing is universal and that's the fun part of this all!

Hi Jasper! As much as I love a traditional wax candle, they're not always feasible in my household since we have a cat that feels that any surface he can reach is fair game (and since he can get to the top of the refrigerator, that means no flat surface is safe from him.) Do you think that electric candles can be used in spells like regular candles?

It depends on what you're using the candle for!

If you're using it for the smoke, wax, or heat, or if you're using it because the burning down of the candle is important to the spell, then no.

However, if you're using it to represent the element of fire or for the light? I see no reason why LED candles can't be used.

For the AMA: What cartoons/shows did you enjoy as a child? Who were your favorite characters, and what archetypes do they represent?

Ooo, I like this question very much. I enjoyed many cartoons and shows as a kid, but of course my mind is blanking on them now that I'm actually answering this question. Of course, the vast majority of my favorite characters were from video games instead of cartoons, but...

Some of my favorites growing up were definitely Toph Beifong from Avatar: The Last Airbender (who frankly needs no introduction), Scorm from LEGO Legends of Chima (my insane little scorpion guy, I love him so much, he's so fucking stupid and needs anger management classes), Arcee from Transformers Prime (I stan women who are allowed to be badass), and...you know what, I'm gonna count Dragon Ball Z, I liked Vegeta a whole lot.

Toph is the incredibly powerful character with a severe drawback - you know, being blind and all. As someone who wears glasses and whose vision is only getting worse, I adore the fact that her disability didn't disappear or was magically cured.

Scorm is the archetype of the flat, 2D villain who does evil for evil's sake, because the Chima show was...pretty meh with writing when Scorm finally came around. But I love him very much regardless, to the point where I'm writing an entire fanfic series about him having his debastardization arc.

Arcee is the archetype of a female character who's had to become more stern and serious around her male coworkers (the rest of the Autobots), which admittedly isn't the best trope, but Little Jasper adored her growing up because I live in rural Missouri, where misogyny is still alive and well (unfortunately).

And Vegeta is...Vegeta. You need to understand, Little Jasper only had season 2 (part of the Namek arc) and season 4 (part of the Android arc) of the Dragon Ball Z Abridged series and only found out other information by looking up fanfiction and fan wikis on their 3DS. Little Jasper was grasping at STRAWS for information. But Vegeta is a major dick and Little Jasper found that to be very inspiring.

For the AMA: If you were doing a spell/ritual with a written component, but the only writing implements available to you were crayons, finger paints, or a black ballpoint pen, which one are you most likely to use?

I favor my gel ink pens, but I'll take a ballpoint pen in a pinch.

However, depending on what I'm doing, I may favor the crayons simply to bring in some color. For example, when I'm doing MTG magic, color is a huge thing in it, and crayons typically come in all of the colors I need for that sort of magic.

And forgive me, but I simply can't use finger paint. The texture is so often very bad for me.
