City 2 Surf 2015
I did it! 14km from Hyde Park Sydney to Bondi Beach. Beautiful sunny day, unlike last years clouds. I walked the whole way, mostly unassisted, at 32 weeks pregnant. =] I made the first half, even up the ‘Heartbreak Hill’ unassisted, but then I started to slow down so I got some pushing help when we were walking up the smaller hills. Mostly so we didn’t get too slow. I did it in 2 hr 49 min. Less than 3 hours! Woo!
The toilet lines were horrendous, one after another I looked and had to walk past. Until I gave up, I said I’m not waiting just to pee a trinkle! So I found a bush and peed right behind it, super easy, super simple, mother natures way. =] Then 30 seconds further on I found a little boy doing the same thing, lol.
My leg muscles were totally fine, probably due to the pilates. I was extremely cautious about my peroneal tendon and my plantar fascitis/arch pain and my ITB pain. So I wrapped up my left foot totally completely with KT tap and had some ITB taping as well. Well, I didn’t get those pains at all during the walk! Prevention and taping is key!
I DID get hip pain. That is the pregnancy talking. Walking at a nice pace made it manageable.
After reaching Bondi Beach, met up with friends and child, ate Burritos at Burrito Shack and drank shots of Tequila and sangria (not me of course). And slowly the crowds faded away, the streets opened up, the sunshine faded down, and most importantly the bus line dwindled down. Twas time to head home. Such a good day, calm ending, and as usual, the first 3 kms seemed the slowest, and then after that you just get into it and keep pumping away and BAM you’re done!
Next race: Racing to finish my uni assignments before baby ‘arrives’! Eek!
