I’m eternally grateful for the people at my school. I was very close to becoming another High School Drop-out until i heard about this place while watching a basquiat documentary. I think my school is going to be one of those things i will genuinely miss from my teenage years, which is something i’m pretty lucky to be able to say. I really wish there were more schools out there like mine. A learning environment that has more emphasis on real world experience rather than textbook memorization within the confines of a classroom. Not everyone learns the same, and it would be insane to think so.
“Founded as an independent alternative high school in 1972, City-As-School’s primary objective is to offer students a multitude of Learning Experiences that encompass the depth and breadth of New York City’s businesses or resources. The program has been continuously evolving, putting students in the field–primarily students at risk of dropping out–and revitalizing their interest in their own lives, in their education and in the society around them...”
(the mural shown in the 4th pic is actually the largest mural in nyc!)
