@cityshope: [ LETTER ] for sender to find a last letter, video, text, etc that receiver made for them, thinking they wouldn’t make it out of the situation alive. Obviously receiver does make it out alive, but the letter/video still exists (and receiver will detail what’s in it).
the letter, envelope & all, was left in the open on her desk before her disappearance. his name is written in her careful handwriting, a more legible version of the more thoughtful scrawl within. the writing within has patches of muddiness, where it has been erased & rewritten. other places it’s simply been scratched out. but its intention is clear.
if you’re reading this, then i am very sorry. the last thing i have ever wanted to do is cause any more grief than absolutely necessary -- which i’m sure you know. goodness knows you are one of the last people who needs any more loss. but if you’ve received this letter, i’m probably dead. hopefully this letter will clear a lot of things up.
first i want to thank you for being my friend. you’re one of the best friends i could have ever had, & knowing that i caused you worry was never enjoyable. i don’t want you to think at all that you could have prevented this -- i know you like to blame yourself, but let me have the fault this time. i have kept certain things from you, selfishly, because i would rather leave some things out than lose a friend.
i could see ghosts. not everyone who died, since not everyone stays, but that’s a whole different story. sometimes it would happen that [UNINTELLIGIBLE] i’d be gone for days. the worst one (before this one, at least) was a whole month. because i didn’t take the precautions, i would vanish & i would come back. i hope you can believe this, even though i know how crazy it must seem. i’m sorry i never told you. i’m sorry that you have to lose someone else. [a large portion has been scratched out.] for both our sakes, please leave it at this. i would rather be remembered as a person than a corpse. i’m sure you understand. thank you, once again, for being my friend.
her name is written almost sheepishly, like another apology. (how embarrassing, if she shows up in the next day or two after he’s found this. but how horrid, if she’s truly gone for good.)
