Lycerius plays a single game of Civilization II for ten years straight

What happens when you play a game of Civ II for far, far longer than the developers ever intended?

Apparently, the world turns into a nuclear wasteland gridlocked in a neverending war between the only three supernations left on Earth.

This is fantastic: Some guy has been playing Civ II for 10 years and has reached an impasse with two other countries -- whenever one of them starts making a gain the units get nuked into oblivion. Most of the world's population has died due to lack of usable land and the polar caps have melted 20 times... I have to admire the tenacity.

CivII is the one Civilisation game I haven't played. I used to try and continue on Civ I but the game would just crap out a few turns after 2100, with an increasing number of squares turning to unpassable tundra. Now I'm keen to see how long I can keep Civ IV going...
