In the town of BELLE MORTE, nothing was ever what it seemed. Historians speculated that the town may have been normal, unassuming, once, but ever since the 1920’s, it’s never been the same. During prohibition, the town was flourishing with underground activities, from illegal gambling to moonshining. It seemed the success of the city, along with its occupants, was unstoppable, but god never did like ugly, and that didn’t last long. During one of the darkest nights in history, the entire city was set ablaze ,the official records say the burn started with a moonshine mishap, but others claimed it was a coverup for something much more sinister. Afterwards, the city rebuilt slowly but surely, but the sordid history was still told like an urban legend, or maybe a warning sign. Fast forward a few decades, and the city seems to be thriving again. It’s almost like the past has been forgotten, even if the darkness still rears its ugly head from time to time, a suspicious murder gone unsolved, a structure fire with no real source, a string of small events, but none of them entirely innocent when looked at all together. Everyone has secrets they’d love to keep, and they always seem to find a way to the light here, sometimes by unfortunate accident, other times, by pure force. Some things, even fire can’t erase.
