Hi!
Saw yours tags on my post Ajaw=CL-04 and you got me thinking...Initially I thought of "Hermit of Myriad Fates" like a "protector" of other'fates (someone tasked with the mission to save). But your explanation...now I'm wondering why Xiuhcoatl chose those titles for his children. Because a hermit is a loner sage but could even be a guide to others, so-
We really needs more info on the dragonlords...
Also, regarding your post "Rangi Nui's End"... I dont' think this is the first time of a book in Natlan with references to the entire game lore? To me, this specific book is like a "resume" of the various Samsara of the continent... But there so much in the book that this can be a very stupid and wrong intepretation. Or, is like an ode to the past, present and future of Natlan and Teyvat?
...Okay, that really sounds stupid and too philosophical and I apologize. Though, I'm curious to read your interpretation.
To be honest... Now that you mention it, I also don't know why Xiuhcoatl named his children like that😭
Xiuhcoatl said himself that he was the "Forger of All Names."
And man what a jaw-drop it produced on me.
Because that means he was, probably, the first ever Name Engraver. You know, the same profession that Xilonen has by forging ancient names to record their people's titles and history through it?
So, safe to assume he named the Dragonlords with the same process as engraving ancient names, right?
But that only boggles me further.
From what I understand (please do correct me if I'm wrong), the current Ancient Names system is operated by the Wayobs, Lord of the Night and/or the Night Kingdom. People could have an ancient name through their respective tribe's Wayob's blessing or forged by a Name Engraver.
The basis for Ancient Names are memories. Wayobs pulled the memories of the land via the Night Kingdom. (Ngl, I think this could be another proof why Natlan could be experiencing samsara. How do the Wayobs know that the recipients of the Ancient Name would fit with it? Unless... they have seen the future of the recipients? Their history from the previous samsara, recorded in the Night Kingdom? We all know that the Night Kingdom is a copy of the Ley Lines system, after all. That may or may not be recording the whole Teyvat's samsara too...)
While a Name Engraver has to thoroughly research the person's history who would receive the ancient name.
[Xilonen's character story 5. Telling the story of Xilonen researching every mention and legacy of her deceased mentor, Teyiz, had left behind in order to forge her ancient name. Maybe this is the ancient name she forged in her teaser trailer? "Mwongozo" - Guide.]
And for our traveller, we have the Pilgrim Chronicles to record our deeds, and therefore, our memories, to be made as the basis of our ancient name.
Now, with all that said, it seems there's a glaring difference between the Night Kingdom's ancient name system with Xiuhcoatl's one... the former could only be made through pre-existing memories/history, while Xiuhcoatl, seemingly, forged the Dragonlords' names before their history even began.
Let's put the focus on CL-04 again; "Hermit of Myriad Fates." As you've said, hermit is a loner sage, which seemingly he was. But the myriad fates part... hmm... what could it be? Well, using the assumption that CL-04 is actually Ajaw, the myriad fates could refer his fate as a dragonlord, and then his continued fate as Ajaw. He lives through multiple fates.
(We could analyse other dragonlords' names too, but honestly, my brain is too fried at this point😅)
But howwwwwww Xiuhcoatl could name him so perfectly like that? It's almost like... the Dragonlords' names are guides of what their lives would end up be. Did Xiuhcoatl wished for the Dragonlords to embody their given names... or that he actually knew what their histories would be like?
The former is more plausible... but the latter... hmm... how did he know??? It's kind of implying that he could see the future, or that even in the dragon era, samsara already existed, and Xiuhcoatl had access to the memories of it. Which doesn't make sense. I'm under the impression that Teyvat's samsara was born due/during the Primordial One's reign or the aftermath of the Great War of Vengeance. And even then, Xiuhcoatl wasn't the type to follow so easily to fate's path, seeing how wretched he was in protecting his civilization. He wouldn't name his kin after their predestined fates, moreover doomed ones.
So... it is still a mystery! And even more mysterious... is how tf that name-forging, something that Xiuhcoatl might have invented, now belongs to Natlan's Night Kingdom! (The answer is probably colonization😁 but for the details, it's still a head-scratcher to me.)
Also a lil bit off-topic but the way Xiuhcoatl named the female dragonlords vs the male ones are so funny. The girls got beautiful names such as "Jade Maiden", "Priestess of Floral Candles and Skyborne Feathers", "Murmuring Spring", etc. While the boys get: "He Who Shakes the Earth Like Thunder in His Wrath!!!!!" "Toxic Rain Over Boundless Forests!!!!" "Bonebreaker!!!!" "Undying Wings of Lofty Isolation!!!!!!" It’s like that meme of women perfumes names vs men perfumes😭 also, what did Xiuhcoatl actually want when he named a dragonlord with "Isolation"😭 why did you wish isolation upon your kin😭✋️
(About Rangi Nui's End, I think I will make a separate post about it... hopefully. Because man that thing deserves its own analysis. And man, how I like your idea about it! Thank you for asking!)
