NEW YORK: If you're in NYC for Fashion Week, ensure to visit #101SpringStreet the former home and studio of renowned artist #DonaldJudd. Featured in our Art Remarkable Places in Champ Issue 9, 101 Spring St is the only intact, single-use cast-iron building remaining in SoHo. Once a former garment factory, the building was bought by #Judd in 1968 for $68,000 and now is maintained by the #JuddFoundation to the same requirements that Judd lived with whilst there. 101 Sprint Street housed around 1,000 works of art and design collected or exchanged with friends. A Marcel Duchamp currently hangs in the hallway of the top floor, whilst Ad Reinhardt’s ‘Red Painting’ graces the second floor. The ground floor was often used for exhibitions, community and activist meetings and performances, with the rst oor holding art world dinner parties. Judd hosted social gatherings because of his genuine curiosity for new ideas and exchange of knowledge and insight with his friends and contemporaries, such as #CarlAndre, #VitoAcconci, #DanFlavin, #BarnettNewman, #ClaesOldenberg and #CoosjevanBruggen. Judd’s innovative approach to the interiors of his house, saw artworks installed in unconventional places, with his concept of “permanent installation” whereby the placement of a work was critical to understanding the work itself. A must visit. 📝 @juddfoundation 📷 @joebmoorepartners
