Raven hated surprises and Roan loved them, which made her birthday kind of nervewracking, so she opened the door to her house slowly, every sense on high alert.

Her house was dark and quiet, but she found him in the kitchen, candles throwing soft yellow light on a fully-laden table.

“Don’t worry, I ordered out,” he said and walked around to kiss her softly.  “Happy Birthday, Raven,” he whispered.

And it was.
