Fake Movie Meme: Clairmonde
Prompts: rose-purity-holmwood asked for a Hammer or AIP adaptation of Clairmonde starring Hazel Court, and I listened to the song O Love is Teasin'.
Romuald (Ralph Bates) is set to become a priest, but even as he accepts the blessings, his mind is elsewhere. All he can think of is Clairmonde (Hazel Court), a beautiful woman he spied earlier that day undressing in her window, and the lovely smile she gave him when she turned around. When his holy duties call him to the bedside of a dying courtesan, he is horrified to discover it is her, but she promises that they will be together even as she breathes her last. When he returns to the church, his superior makes the mistake of calling the dead Clairmonde a degraded slut whose death was called for by god.
Ramuald responds by beating the man to death and fleeing into the night.
Luckily- or perhaps unluckily- the same servants who took him to Clairmonde come upon him as a fugitive, and take him to their mistress, who appears to be very much alive. They ask no questions of each other, only delighting to be with the one they love. And by the time Romuald realizes his new lover is the reason for his loss of blood and mysterious wounds, he is in too deep to care.
