An actual canonical ship would seem to be Rosa/Helena
I know what it means in the context of British boarding schools, but I sure did a double take when Crisparkle fondly called Mr Tartar "My old fag!"
A lot of people are ragging on the 'cable diverted to avoid Dobby's grave after Harry Potter fans raise a stink' thing and while I also love ragging on Harry Potter fans being weird, in this case it looks like the story was completely made up.
tl;dr: There's no evidence the interview that this was mentioned in even exists, no evidence the route of the cable has ever changed, and the whole story seems to originate from one dude's podcast.
The story also broke into mainstream via the Daily Mail, who are ... rarely if ever honest or accurate.
Idk, as of yesterday, The New York Times, CNN and BBC and more major news networks all have articles about it. One would hope that major reporting organizations would do their background research into the sources used by anyone else they cited.
Also: no accusations at OP, but because this is a screenshot, we can't click anything linked here to read it ourselves.
Here's a link to the screenshoted post, to which there are comments with further nuance
And here's a link directly to the comment in the screenshot, so you don't have to wade through the whole thread looking for it: https://old.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/1vjde6y/rumours_speculation_questions_and_reaction/p2t4b8m/?context=3
i hate how much people care about their ships being "canon" now. spirk fans didn't publish zines full of fanfics in the 70s only for modern fandom to grovel at the knees of corporations and beg for things to be canon. use your imaginations, don't allow billionaires to think for you.
it’s just crazy to me when feminist retellings particularly of like ancient or mythological characters manage to have less complex and interesting portrayals of women than the source material. because to be so honest it happens a LOT
Lovely to see we have spaces where you can gain access to so much literature!
i'd also like to add on: the japan foundation
the queer liberation library (US only, doesn't verify your location however) literature translation institute of korea
I'm sure it's been added a million times, but that's not how you spell Gutenberg. Here's the correct link to Project Gutenberg: https://www.gutenberg.org/
frustrating when you are talking about folklore as the narratives a particular culture tells itself about itself and then someone else is talking about folklore as a dnd monster manual
cavemen exchanging handheld fertility idols like the business card scene in American Psycho and when the rotation gets to Grug Allen his is the Venus of Willendorf
Poirot would be a good detective to solve the Mystery of Edwin Drood because a lot of the characters are people he would be thoroughly justified in being bitchy towards, and I would love to see all of Dickens' classic That Guys in a summation.
people talking about this castle is haunted or whatever while i’ve been here 500 years and haven’t seen shit
Helena Landless is one of the greatest gothic heroines of all time, I'm surprised more literary goths don't talk about her.
My favorite part so far is when someone goes "Haha, the sexy bad guy is just a strict music teacher! He'd scare you, Helena, right?" and she goes "No."
Look, I can't make Jasper/Helena actually make sense, but that was a great scene. How about a missing scene of antagonistic tension where she accuses him of being a murderer and a seducer, and he says shouldn't a defenseless maiden be afraid to cross such a man, and she once again says "Not under any circumstances"? If only I could do a Dickens pastiche...
Let your foppish friends influence you <3

I think the reason I still enjoy tumblr is that even though this all still pisses me off, I know that anything that makes me mad on here is 100% earnest. It's not ragebait or engagement farming, y'all are actually just that stupid sometimes
