two days late but that Supergirl episode sucked
The massive, racist bullshit that was ending Kara/James in the weakest, laziest way possible. They kiss after a season of interest, mentions of the word love, and tension/angst, and then 12 hours later she decides they work better as friends. And while apparently he's getting the role as *spoiler*, it feels like their fading him out of the show, (esp considering with the reporter move and Cat's flashbulb and Winn's new career they are getting rid of a lot of the office ties the show has.)
[this also makes me even less hopeful about how they're going to treat the new characters]
Speaking of, she becomes a reporter? She's an executive assistant to a high level CEO, (which the show seems to forget a lot), those skills translate a lot more to a position in the charity arm of the company than to a reporter. And hey, as someone working for the charity she can still have run-ins with Lena Luthor - whose company goal is to do good - which is partly what the motive behind this career turn seems like. That and she needs to match her cousin, which -
She is the main star of the show. I thought they mostly (stress that word) balanced Superman's presence in the first season, but between the over hyped promotion and his too heavy presence in this episode, it makes it seem like she's following his footsteps. They did no build-up to turn her interest into journalism, and there are a million ways to help people beyond that.
Cat Grant panting after Clark? Ha no, not even for the gag. Winn fanboying makes sense, that fits his character. Cat chasing after a guy like that is off, but esp the guy in love with Lois Lane who she hates? (And what is that? Lois Lane - who was always the stronger reporter - is pettily disliked, but Clark Kent is God's gift to journalism? No.)
"I taught myself Kryptonian!" -> he has actual skills the DEO would be interested in, this was just so unnecessary. (He learned this dead language how?)
It’s great for Kara to have someone who speaks her language, considering it’s possibly Clark, her murderous Uncle, and maybe the new pod guy, but how did he learn this language? When? Is this ever going to come up beside him sometimes recognizing some words?
honestly everyone and their mother knows that Alex and Supergirl are sisters, and that Kara and Alex are sisters, and that Kara and Clark are cousins, and that Supergirl and Superman are cousins, so we better hope no one at the DEO decides to use that "secret" information. (they are so careless about names, which isn't new but continuously bugs me; I really appreciated that she told the people she trusted immediately - in direct opposition to like, all male superheroes - but that doesn't mean everyone should know because you can't keep a secret.)
I thought Lena Luthor was behind the attacks against herself; while I have no feelings about that not being true, the fact it didn’t occur to anyone as a possibility was ridiculous
explosion on a vehicle she wasn’t on, bullets that don’t hit her (but kill her pilot) before the Supes get there, timed explosion while she’s on the platform so she had enough time to get away, and shot the guy before he could be taken and maybe turned to tell them the truth. She gets great PR and a mark of trustworthiness.
the dynamic between Kara and Clark was disappointing, and something about Superman came off as smug.
There were a few things I liked - mainly Alex & J’onn, Alex & Kara, and Clark & Jimmy, and I like the idea of the dislike/distrust between Clark & J’onn even if it was brushed over too fast - but it was an extremely disappointing episode, and how they wrote off James soured the show to me.
