In the reading,
the Carter/Palihawadana translation states: “If, with perception polluted, one speaks or acts, / Thence suffering follows / As a wheel the draught ox’s foot.” while
the Easwaran translation states: “Those whose minds are shaped by selfish thoughts cause misery when they speak or act. Sorrows roll over them as the wheels of a cart roll over the tracks of the bullock that draws it.”
In my opinion, Easwaran’s translation is biased (not positively or negatively, though. Just biased.) due to his own perception of Buddha’s teachings. While the academic (and hence, more neutral) translation of his teachings simply indicates polluted perception, Easwaran goes a step further to interpret that polluted perception is the same as selfish thoughts. However, a polluted perception could be an indicator of much more than selfish thoughts - it could mean having too much pride, anger, or ego (Chinese Buddhist Encyclopedia).
While Eswaran interprets the text as how most of us would, his translation omits a lot of minor details that, perhaps, don’t matter in the overall message. On the other hand, the Carter/Palihawadana translation is careful to keep as close as possible to the original text - which allows multiple interpretations of the text. In that way, the question would be if it’s good to read a translation as Eswaran’s - which allows the followers to follow one interpretation, or if it’s better for followers to have their own interpretations of his teachings (which is not necessarily a good thing)?

PEAR DECK: interactive between teachers and students. slides differ from a teacher view/student view. teachers view progress individually for each student as each student goes through the slide show. You have to have a google drive to use it (so if your kids are too young, this is a pothole)
GOOGLE DOCS: collaborative site. need to have a google account. you and other edit documents with you and can edit at the same times. pot holes: not a good word processor, you're limited to your options. you can cheat with this, access information within eachother. another pothole is that you can write at the same time and it could go wrong. you can limit accessibility to just your teacher or just your group members.
CLASS DOJO: classroom management, parent engagement. you can make classes, add students. you can manage their behavior by adding points to each individual or to your class. you can post class updates, pictures. parents can see this if they have the app. when you create this class it gives you a pdf explaining the app so you can provide that to the parents and students. you can take attendance. parents can message you and you can message them via the app. Potholes: how teachers use it, displaying it to the whole class. 20 different languages. free. as a parent you only see your kids progress when you sign up.
FACT MONSTER: collection of information, quizzes, worksheets. by categories. has different references. Homework resources you can provide for your students. I wouldn't use this in my classroom for a lesson, I would provide it as a reference for them if they would want to use it, if they want to. Pothole: you cant see your students progress. You can’t pick activities based on grade level.
INSTAGROK: research any topic with an interactive concept map that you can customize. its like google. the concept map has different topics based on that topic and it branches off into more specifics. if you make an account you can use the journal option to take notes. it has mini quizzes on each topic.
PBS KIDS (super market mania): educational game website. nutrition board game. not challenging. repetitive. I wish she would've explained PBS kids not just the specific game.
