June 9th-10th, 2015: day one of recovery: I got out of the OR around 5pm yesterday and stayed in the PACU for about two hours after I woke up (there was a scheduling issue that interfered with me getting to the hospital room in which I9 was supposed to spend the night. The surgery went extremely well according to my surgeon and I can probably hope to get my braces off sooner than expected. Since I have a pump that can give me doses of morphine whenever I want, last night was a blur since I slept through it completely, save for 3-4 bathroom breaks. I have calf massagers on my legs that periodically squeeze them to promote circulation and avoid blood clots, which I was not expecting but they’re very nice. In the last few concious minutes I had while being prepped, my surgical team made silly jokes to calm me down, it was very relaxing. I don’t remember anything after that. So far I’ve eaten about a cup and a half as well as a small bowl of chicken broth, about half of a cup of melted frozen lemon - flavored Italian ice (like a slushie!!!), and a bottle of water, all through the food syringes I recieved, as I am incapable of safely maneuvering spoons/straws to my mouth without spilling all over myself. So far, with all the IV drugs and painkillers, my pain has been kept very well under control, save the experience of my surgeon moving the blood drainage tube from the insides of my mouth! I have an oxygen mask that provides pure oxygen as well as humidity to prevent the insides of my nose from drying out and causing nosebleeds. I can’t open my mouth very wide and it’s somewhat difficult to speak and swallow, but I’m so happy with my new side profile, even if my swollenness hides what the final result will be! (Forgive me for any typos or misspellings, as my sight is somewhat blurry and I’m just "waking up" from my last dose of morphine about 20 minutes ago)
