What do you think the difference between a Rogue and a Thief is? I know Calliope kind of explained the difference between the two, but her definition of a Rogue kind of puts all Rogues at a disadvantage. A Thief of X would be ultimately more powerful than a Rogue of X because the Thief would steal X for themselves - while the Rogue is limited; they can only distribute X's properties between their teammates, not themselves. Also, a Thief could act like a Rogue if they were kind/selfless enough.
I’m actually of the idea that a Rogue and Thief’s powers are one of “Relocation” and calling it stealing like calliope does is only half right, but still basically the same thing, it’s not quite the full picture. Stealing is only half of it.
So Thieves start out taking things, they steal and move things towards themselves. This is reflected in their personalities as well as hoarders of their aspect. A Thief’s challenge is to learn to give things up, to give back, so they both put a reign on their greed and grow as people and learn the full parts of moving stuff around.
Rogues on the other hand start out giving stuff up to do with their aspect, or giving up their aspect to others. This is also reflected in their more selfless looking out for others but also sort of insecure personalities, the roguish drive to give being fueled by a secret inner thought that maybe they don’t deserve it so it’s best in someone else’s hands. Their challenge is to learn to Take back stuff about their aspect. This helps them grow as people by teaching them they and their things do have value and its not bad to hold onto it and they learn the other half of moving stuff around.
So at the end they have the similar powers of Relocation, but they each focus on the different ends, even if their growth includes a little bit of the other end.
Like how both destruction classes destroy, both creation classes create, just in different ways. Both relocation classes relocate, just in different ways. This is how I see it anyway lol
