Menu Monday: Some of the parties students have thrown in their dorm rooms, as the Nassau Literary Magazine noted in March 1876, are fancier than others. Some things might be simpler in this century (though of course not this year, with social distancing rules making parties of this kind too risky to host or attend). Rather than hiring a live band, as the Class of 1876 residents of Reunion Hall did, students would probably play prerecorded music, and they’re more likely to have a restaurant deliver the food than they would be to ask a local resident to cater for them. Mrs. Priest’s menu, provided here in French, was indulgent for its time but not quite as elaborate as the language used might make one assume. Here it is in English:
