Many thanks to a careful WutBJU reader for this find.
Arkansas State Sen. Jim Hendren has moved his political party affiliation from Republican to Independent and has plans to form a new organization aimed at working in bipartisan fashion, he announced Thursday (Feb. 18).
The Capitol Insurrection was too much for Senator Hendren, and WutBJU commends his courage.
Hendren is the nephew of BJU-alumnus Asa Hutchinson, so that got Wut’s reader thinking: did Hendren also graduate from BJU?
And there he was! In the Freshman class of 1981-82, James P. Hendren of Gravette, Arkansas:
Piper High School (Kansas) Class of 1982: (l-r): Karla McKendra, Tammy Halferty, Kelly Schrader, Debbie Bowman.
Kent Phillip Henne was born in Aurora, Illinois on July 29, 1961. He graduated from Glenbard East High School in Lumbard, Illinois and then attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina for one year (1981-82) while he studied religion. Kent then worked at Marshall’s Department Store in Lumbard.
Following the loss of his eyesight Kent became involved with the Tri State Independent Blind Society in Dubuque, Iowa. Kent made Braille playing cards, gave Braille lessons, and learned how to walk using the walking cane. Kent began his affiliation with the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella, Iowa in 1997 from where he retired from his employment in 2003.
Kent and Edith Vander Hart shared their faith together until she passed away on September 28, 2017. Pella, Iowa was Kent’s favorite place to live, where he enjoyed playing cards and listening to books on tape. Kent was baptized and made profession of his faith at the Claimstreet Baptist Church in Aurora, Illinois at the age of 14 years. Kent was a member of the Peoria Christian Reformed Church in Peoria, Iowa at the time of his death on June 1, 2019, at the age of 58 years, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kent was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Dale Henne, his mother, Ruth Marie Whickert Henne-Wittenberg, and his sister, Susan Irene Henne. He leaves behind a brother, Scott Nathan Henne. Kent’s friend was Jesus Christ and he wanted to be remembered as the son of a living God.
A Graveside Service for Kent Henne will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2019, 10:00 am, at the Stewart Cemetery, New Sharon, Iowa.
Laurel Farley, 57, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 10th, 2018.
Laurie was and is the heart of her family: husband Alan and children Thomas, Jacob, Scott, and Elise. With all the other interests and activities in her life, her family was her first concern – primarily that they would all know the Lord in salvation and live God-honoring lives. She, herself, accepted Christ’s gift of salvation as a young girl.
The youngest of three daughters of D.L. and Yvonne (Brader) Boone, she was born Laurel Denise Boone in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and moved to this area as a pre-teen.
In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her mother, sisters Frieda DePenning and Jan Rogers, daughters-in-law Liz and Kiah, aunts Vivian Smith, Carol Brader, Ellen Linkenhoker, Jo Ann Pabody, as well as cousins.
She was preceded in passing by her father, Dolphus Boone.
Laurie also had numerous dear friends, including ones from church, from softball and volleyball officiating, and from her school years. She and her family have appreciated so much their faithful prayers, visits, meals and other expressions of love.
A lady with a heart for service, Laurie was always one of the first to volunteer for ministries at her church – a special love of hers being the Good News Club. She also served her community as director of the HOA.
There is no end to the list of her talents and skills which she used to repair and enhance her own home, to provide for the needs and enjoyment of her family, and to prepare her children for life. One son said, “Mom’s main fault was that she cared too much!”
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Good News Club at https://my.simplegive.com/f/f2?formid=2fbdb437-386e-479d-9893-a487956fe470
Laurie benefitted from Christian school education her entire academic career, concluding with a B.S. from Bob Jones University in 1982. In addition to that degree, she made dear friends there and met Alan, her faithful husband of 35 years.
The Memorial Service will be at Second Presbyterian Church 105 River Street Greenville, South Carolina 29601 on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018 at 12:00 pm.
