Today we kicked off a new project featuring birds. Rachel found an interesting article last year that inspired this project. The article provided Rachel with information on the astounding amount of birds that die due to human activity as well as a list of local birds that can easily be spotted in the Chicago area. This is a timely project since birding has grown in popularity since the COVID 19 lock down began and also because it connects to our big idea of preservation. Noelle also compiled a list of endangered birds of North America that offers an exotic array of colorful and unusual birds. Noelle was surprised to find that a majority of the birds on the list were native to Mexico.
We anticipate that students will likely not complete this project so it will likely roll over into our Fall classes. Today we will tackle selecting a bird of individual students’ choice and creating a line drawing of their bird.
