Temporary inequality represents the aspects of an individual that can be changed. Social status is one instance of temporary inequality and is shown in the image of the table above. The table was taken from an article written by Alexandra Cawthorne, titled “The Straight Facts on Women in Poverty.” Cawthorne discussed, in that article, interesting statements about social standing such as how, “women are poorer than men in all racial and ethnic groups.” Even when it comes to socio-economic background, women in America suffer from this kind of oppression, too. The oppression of class has always affected women throughout history. The author has also compared the social standing of women in the United States with women of other countries, and her results showed that the women of U.S. fell behind in a huge gap with women from different countries. Cawthorne’s explanation for this gap was based on the difference in salary, duties, and responsibilities between the sexes. Society’s salary rate for females is still much lower than males up until now. A certain responsibility that Cawthorne mentioned about women in poverty is that “women are more likely to bear the costs of raising children.” In addition, the author said how it was more likely for, “Women [to] spend more time providing unpaid caregiving than men.” Females in America are oppressed by this unwanted social inequality and there are several solutions out there to disintegrate this issue.
