My room is starting to come together! I'm really pleased with the two tapestries that I put up :) I think my classroom theme has found me: Llamas! I'm also super happy with my play kitchen I think the kids are going to love it <3 I even have my teacher closet pretty much ready roll. Still more to come, but I'm feeling a lot better about the start of the year!

I found two adorable fleece cacti pattern remnants to make into floor cushions to fulfill my flexible seating hopes and dreams. Next, I got some nice dark green fabric for one of my class bulletin boards. And then I found this adorable llama print that Is definitely my first classroom splurge purchase. But, I absolutely love the print so I'm not feeling a ton of guilt ;) The original plan for the llamas as for my second bulletin board but now I'm thinking maybe an apron to wear in the class? We'll see 🙂

Target teacher haul from the 1-3 dollar section :) I am excited for the dry erase word strips to use in my pocket chart! The corgi/shiba pointer I just couldn't resist it was so cute! Not sure how the word puzzles will work but they're cute and Spanish! The word cards I'm not sure how or if I'll use the but they were just a dollar so can't hurt.

Classroom Set Up Day 3

So most of what I did today was organizing. My room still looks like a giant mess, but I swear I organized and sorted stuff. I brought in most of the stuff that I’ve bought for my classroom. I sorted that out into where I want it to go. I started putting together dry erase bags. My intention this year is to have a board a marker and an eraser in each of the zipper pouches and each kid gets a pouch. That way when we’re doing work with our whiteboards, all I have to say is go get your dry erase pouch and they’ll have everything they need and we don’t have to spend 10 minutes handing out supplies.

I also put all of the headphones in baggies and put numbers on the baggies. I probably need to take them out of the bags and put numbers on the headphones themselves as well so we can match things up with the bags. I am determined that we are not going to go through more than one set of headphones this year. (Last year my class went through six! Six sets of headphones! I don’t want to say they were monsters because they weren’t, but how do you destroy six sets of headphones???!)

I put together a cute set of boxes for sharp and dull pencils and eraser caps. They’re cute and they were pretty easy to put together, but I think I might need to bring in my hot glue gun and glue the pieces together. The dull cup fell apart as I was putting pencils on it. (That’s what happens when you buy cheap things on Amazon, friends…)

I sorted and emptied out three sets of rolling drawers. I have about five and I don’t know that I’m gonna need them this year because I have storage built-in. One of them had a broken drawer and one of them is missing a wheel. I could maybe steal a wheel from the one that’s broken and put it on the other one. Otherwise I’m getting rid of two things…

I really feel like I didn’t do very much at all today, but I did. I need to start getting some of the trash I’ve created out of there. I also need to start moving the furniture. Tomorrow I have more boxes to go through and more drawers. I need to start putting things in cupboards. The only hiccup is gonna be that I said I would help with registration in the morning, so I probably won’t get anything until the afternoon…

Things I Did in My Classroom Today

I found all my library book bins.

I sorted all but one box of books.

I left the last book box because it is trapped under a bunch of other stuff and I didn’t feel like digging it out.

I sorted books by fiction in the green tubs, nonfiction in the blue tubs, and curriculum related books in the red tubs.

I also sorted books by whether they are independent reading books or read aloud books.

I didn’t take a picture, but I figured out that my student supply bins will fit in one of the cupboards that I have. They’ll fit pretty exactly, as long as I don’t have more than 20 kids. Currently my roster is at 17. (I might need to test to see if the top shelf is too high for first graders… not sure yet…)

I think I know where I’m going to put the library as well.

I left it at this point because my phone was about to die and I didn’t want to dig through all the boxes and drawers to figure out where I put my school phone charger. Also, I’m not getting paid to go into work on my classroom until around August 4th, so I am not requiring myself to stay a full school day.

I feel pretty good about how far I got today. 😊
