I barely ever post on here.
Yeah I’m a fan fic/tv /whatever geek.... but I’m also a teacher.
In NZ we’ve been in Level 4 quarantine/lock down for 4 1/2 weeks. We’ve now been in Level 3 for just under a week.
As a teacher, I’ve been teaching online since lockdown began (we’re now in Week 6 of this) even though ‘holidays’ happened for two weeks (yeah right holidays... we were still expected to post activities, time killers, art projects etc for the kids (which I’m ok with, because I don’t wNt my kids bored.. but I’m just still I’ve been working full time in one way or another since January 25th with no break).
Anyway. When Leve 3 started, we had a few kids who NEEDED to be back at school due to their parents being essential workers. For the last three day’s (feels like 3 weeks to be honest) I’ve been at school from 11.30-3 with between 5 and 8 kids.
I know. It sounds easy. I get it, I’ve taught classes of 28-35 kids.
But this is a whole ‘nother ball game. This is serious folks.
I’m teaching online with my class of 28 kids (yeah I know I’m lucky, it’s the smallest class I’ve had in 8 years) I’m taking on Zoom class meetings and Zoom workshops and Zoom team meetings and Zoom staff meetings, and planning for my own class, and moderating Google Classrppm, and posting work, and editing Seesaw posts and ok-ing Seesaw posts, and liking and commenting on Sesaw posts, and responding to parent messages on Seesaw, and responding to 101 emai a day on my work email.
And then I’m at school. And I’m helping an assisting and videoing and photographing , and I’m setting up experiments and helping them look for leaves, and I’m putting together an afternoon program that isn’t too tiring and gives them down time.
And I’m GRATEFUL. I am. I’m so blessed to have this tome out of my house and out with other people. I’m thrilled to be interacting with other humans.
But three days in? I’m EXHAUSTED.
Teaching online is more exhausting and more hard work than than teaching person EVER was. And then you add on the in person/school stuff?
I’M TIRED, and I love the weekend. The end
