Ok, inspired by your claudinette post (and my love of polycules), imagine how messy adrien/mari/claudia would be especially if it starts with adriennette and both of them falling for claudia. Like, the fairy tale romance (that leaves both suffering under trying to be their 'best' selves for each other) being 'broken up' by this skrunky girl who's more real than anything they've experienced. But talking to her together about anything serious/emotional is like picking up an angry cat (scratch marks included). And each one can see through part of the lies the others put up, but see different parts underneath.
Like Mari can see the issues claudrien have with intimacy and personal connections, but misses how the chivalry is a mask for adrien or how claudia's apathy is depression. Claudia can see how adriennette struggle with standing up for themselves/are quick to people please, but misses how important close friends/relationships are to them?(idk, something that makes her not see how those two would struggle if claudia just up and left them). And Adrien can see how claudinette suffers from expectations (with marientte trying to live up to the highest expectations and claudia refuting all expectations out of spite), but cant really see the normal life problems of not being rich? (again, idk).
I just want the clustermess of all three being "These two are so weird, thank kwami I'm the only normal person here" and trying to fix each other. Bonus points for side conversations of "Hey, we need to help adrien" "Yeah, that guy is pretty f'd up" and mari's thinking about reassuring adrien that she won't leave, that he's wanted, etc, and claudia's thinking about teaching him to punch people and how to be creative with insults. By the time all three start improving, each one is in too deep and they've become codependent on the others.
And the nuclear level catastrophe of them getting close to being in a relationship together, with mari screaming about how she's emotionally cheating on her perfect prince with this soggy possum she found, adrien panicking because there's no way two people actually want him and what if they decide claudinette works better and leave him alone and abandoned, and claudia gritting her teeth because she's gotten too close to people again, she knows there's no way any of this works in the end, and it'd be better for everyone if she just disappears again (but she can't, she's almost feeling happy around these two ugly criers). And given the three involved, there's gonna be a lot of overly dramatic nonsense as they try to work out things out. (extra bonus points for intense claudia awkwardness as both adrien and marinette try to ask her out while dancing around the subject, with internal/external screaming on the tenth time adriennette almost asks but dodges away from just saying the question).
(Unfortunately this would need to break the main canon of warm embrace, as this would only really work without sillynettee). And Admittedly, I'm not sure how well it plays with the larger themes of the story, beyond the whole breaking with fate/social expectations things in an arguably more gentle way.
Anyway, there's a lot of potential here for some insane shenanigans as claudrienette slowly draw eachother inward. Stuff like the family hugs thing with adrien crying out of happiness and claudia crying out of frustration, or claudia teaching adrienette about teenage rebellion. Maybe the trio meeting a bad ex of claudia and adrien (using the spine claudia gave him) uses a truly impressive collection of swears and makes claudia feel warm and fuzzy inside (it's pride in her work on adrien, nothing else she swears). A couple of months in game nights become risky and almost violent endeavors, as mari's a cocky winner, claudia a sore loser, and adrien is a little shit more focused on messing up the other two than actually winning. Or the three of them being in costume, ladybug giving the whole "no reveals" speech and claudia detransforming on the spot because she disagreed. Chat immediately saying "Claudia!" Ladybug- "You know Claudia?!" Claudia- "Wait, you two know me? A blond overdramatic guy, a blunette perfectionist... Adrien and Mari!". Mari in the corner screaming and freaking out over 'oh no what if this or that happens!', Adrien bluescreening because he's trying to reconnect Mari=Ladybug (and Claudia in costume's got some muscle on those arms), and Claudia muttering about "of course it's these two idiots, why wouldn't it be these two".
Alya's doing her best to support mari as she over thinks every single interaction trying to figure out how to deal with claudia flirting with both her and adrien(and why she feels the same squirms at claudia's words as she does with adrien's), and alya ends up being the one to remind mari that poly's a real thing after she pieces together that mari's not jealous of claudia. Nino's absolutely fascinated/concerned by adrien's attraction to these two girldisasters. "Dude, that looked like it hurt" "Nah, I like it when she punches me :)", "Do Mari and Claudia like... get along?" "Oh yeah, the death stare is because Claudia ate the last fudge bar in the freezer". Chloe and Claudia initially hate eachother's guts, but eventually become friends over smack talking everyone else. It's Chloe that makes Claudia realize that when they both say "Mari is disgustingly sweet and cutesy", Claudia says it /affectionately.
At the end of the day, I want mari's room to have a half feral claudia on the balcony with smokes and dry wit, adrien in a corner making the worst romantic poetry and reading it aloud, and mari trying to make clothes while other other two treat her fabric like blankets and pillows. And I want all three of them to learn how to handle affection norm- well, maybe not normally, but how to handle being loved without freaking out about it.
Seriously, a sincere full hearted hug between the three of them at the start of this mess would result in Claudia running halfway across the city, Adrien crying in the corner, and Mari screaming into a pillow.
Those issues... aside..... Well, hey, I guess it's a good sign in some respect that Claudia is getting the lukadrinette/adrigaminette treatment. Let's try and unpack the idea of Claudrienette.
I think our main initial hurdle would be finding out how exactly both of them meet Claudia, and then from there what motivates them to continue seeking out her presence. The psuedo-instalove in TWEoS's case only really works, imo, because Adrien has recently cut himself off from the social circle of Ladybug's team and feels equally distant from his friends at school, so deep down he keeps trying to talk to her because he just needs someone to talk to period. As cute as Marinette and Adrien falling for Claudia would be (almost a reverse Luka situation, where they're inclined to help the third rather than be helped by the third), we would need impetus for them to seek each other out because she's not automatically in the same social circles as them.
From there, I think Marinette and Adrien both having pretty rigid ideas on romantic relationships would actually be a massive hurdle to going poly! Marinette hasn't planned for another person to join in the mix, and while her relationship with Kagami can definitely serve as a benchmark as to how Marinette would normally react to such a thing, Claudia and Kagami are not the same. Marinette's insecurities surrounding how much better Kagami is for Adrien don't apply to Claudia, for example. Tensions could vary from Marinette perceiving Claudia as a sort of "pity case" to, well, displays of subconscious classist biases. Also, given the fact that Marinette is a lot less in-tune with other people's emotions and finds it difficult to empathize with people and prefers to problem-solve (ex: the difference between Adrien and Marinette's responses to finding Juleka crying in Guiltrip), she's going to cross Claudia's boundaries much more often than Adrien does. Marinette does everything she can to help people, and Claudia does not like it when people try to help her! At all!
(The best way to execute this ideological conflict, imo, would be to allow for Claudia to properly set her boundaries with Marinette before they're involved in anything romantic while still allowing Marinette to convince Claudia she has worth.)
Overall, I do think Claudrien is really only stable through Sodium Chloride principles, and Marinette is also pretty neurotic, so I could see things turning out pretty badly. That's not even to say I wouldn't enjoy seeing things turn out badly, just that they likely would! And even then, this is all contingent on Adrien being closer to how I write him in TWEoS as compared to canon. Canon Adrien's flaws present themselves quite differently, so his dynamic with Claudia is theoretically much different than Tweosdrien's.
sure she smells like sugar cookies and sweet milk and it's literally all i can think about when she walks into the room and every single time marinette has blown me off because i'm too lame for her she's always been there to comfort me and she's somehow willing to drop whatever she's doing the minute i ask for her advice but like... having a crush on her would be gay somehow. also she's a gross stupid prep
tweos au where adrien never got over his feelings towards ladybug and uh.
No, the mask wasn't right and the spots were off-kilter in a way that could only happen from mass production. And she'd put her hair up in pigtails like he'd asked—begged, really—but they were just as much facsimile as the paper mask. And it was stupid, really, to request any of this. Not just because he was making her dress up as something entirely different... but because that different person had hurt him so deeply.
"Uhm... my lady," he said, beginning to ask a question he didn't know the end of.
'My lady', 'my lady', 'my lady'. Ladybug had hated it. But she let him use it, she let Adrien warp it into a name when he couldn't bring himself to use her real one. His 'lady' turned to face him, a cigarette hanging off her lip.
"Yes?"
Adrien swallowed, glancing away from that shitty paper mask as if the sight of the color red suddenly pained him. He had ruined everything for himself. He always did.
"...I'll pay double what I initially promised."
His lady rose to her feet, about to untie her hair. Adrien grabbed her hand to stop her.
"Triple!" he bargained. "Just— Please stay."
