Does anyone have opinions of Clay Risen as a historian/writer? I saw his book about the red scare, and I got an excited little tingle at "newly declassified documents" being used, but I also get wary of any book marketed as a "Now more than ever, we need to know about this!"
Not because I don't get why the red scare would be relevant to the here and now, but I want to read a book about the red scare events, not a book that uses those events to talk about the modern day. I want the history itself, not an interpretation of what it means now.
