“My brother got me a job at a tile store back when I was just a kid. After a few years, I traveled to Mexico, where I learned about the process of making handmade tiles. It was an experience I will never forget.” Years later, Barreiro is a co-owner and operator of a store that sells imported handmade tile from all over the world. “Soon, we are going to partner with tile makers in Saltillo, Mexico, which is one of Austin’s sister cities. We want to take once-fired tiles and collaborate with Austin artists to produce one-of-a-kind pieces.”
