The Art of Fermentation by ujjal dey
Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the world’s light—a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father." (TLB)
Most house lamps nowadays are electric and only work when switched on. Switch on, bright light - switch off, we’re sitting in the dark. That’s what being a Christian is like. We need to switch on the light, which only comes from Jesus, the “light of the world (John 8:12) Without Him, it’s a dark life. Who knows what’s out there in the spiritual darkness that Satan rules? We need the light of Jesus to avoid the obstacles of the enemy, who relentlessly tries to trip us up.
There are many rechargeable lights available these days that only work when the battery is regularly charged. As Christians, if we don’t recharge ourselves our spiritual batteries start to run down and we’ve got little light to share and not much for ourselves. Christians work at their brightest and best when plugged into the energy source of God at all times - He’s our mains power. If we are running on our own battery power, we’ll start to run down - we need a boost from the Energy of God! If I go too many days without Jesus, I can feel myself getting drained and dim. Friend, on a day that seems dark, you need the light of Jesus. Plug into His power: by His Word, fellowship, prayer, worship songs, time in His presence. The more you recharge, the brighter and more powerful you will be in Jesus.
Christians work at their brightest and best when plugged into God’s energy at all times. Running on our own battery power, supply gets low and we need a boost from the Energy of God! If I go too many days without God, I can feel myself going flat inside. Friend, if it’s a day that seems dark, get some of the light of Jesus. Plug into His power: by His Word, fellowship with other believers, prayer, worship songs, quality time in His presence. The more you stay in His light, the brighter and more powerful you will be.
Christians need to stay recharged, because God chose us to shine brightly. "People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket...They put it on top of a lampstand, and it shines on all who are in the house...Who would light a lamp and then hide it in an obscure place? Instead, it’s placed where everyone in the house can benefit from its light." (Matthew 5:15 WE; CEB; TPT) It doesn’t matter if we’re clay containers that are a bit cracked, we just shine more light that way, “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars...This precious treasure—this light and power that now shine within us—is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the glorious power within must be from God and is not our own.” (2 Corinthians 4:7 TLB)
“By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16 MSG) God’s counting on us to be His light. We’re called to help others stay safe by looking out for them, helping them, praying for them and shining a light on the signpost to Jesus. PRAYER: Oh Lord, thank You for choosing us to be Your light in this dark world. Keep us charged with Your power so we can be Your lighthouses, Your “city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see.” May we be Your light in our homes, amongst our family and friends. Help us to be true ambassadors for you and inspire us to do good things in your name, so our “good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise You, Heavenly Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
