Illustrating the corrupt nature of this process is a case out of #Georgia in which a sheriff with a history of alleged criminal activity is accused of harassing, intimidating, and even arresting innocent people who challenge his authority. On August 10, Robert Hawes, a former deputy with the #ClaytonCounty sheriff’s department, announced that he would be running against the incumbent Sheriff Victor Hill. Days later police would be in his home, kidnapping his wife. “This sounds like an effort to intimidate a potential political opponent, which is in my mind, not an appropriate use of law enforcement powers,” Harvey Newman, professor emeritus at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at #GeorgiaStateUniversity told AJC. “We want people to feel able to speak truth to power. But this appears to be an effort to, if not silence that, to at least intimidate it.” After Hawes announced his desires to seek Hill’s job, Hawes says that’s when Hill went on the offensive, sending out emails disparaged Hawes’ sons, accusing them of stealing their father’s department-issued gun in 2014 and selling it at a pawn shop. Hawes said the accusation is untrue. “I bet you if we did an open records request of the emails that came from the sheriff, there would be some nasty threats from him,” he said. “The only reason he is doing what he is doing is because I said I was running for sheriff.” When they heard of the false claims, Gerrian Hawes, Robert’s wife, emailed the sheriff and said, “Where there is love, fear cannot exist.” For this, deputies were sent to their home to arrest Gerrian for making threats to the sheriff. “All this comes after I made the announcement I was running for sheriff,” Robert said. “She responded because she thinks he is trying to place fear into us.” As the AJC reports, Hill has an extremely corrupt and checkered past: 🖐🏾More in comments👇🏾#PoliceState - #regrann

Studying abroad

I’ve always wanted to study abroad. It’s been a huge dream of mine since I was little kid. But you know sometimes things just don’t work out well. Life gives you extreme lemons sometimes but you push through and don’t let it break you. However sometimes they’re are situations where it’s very difficult to push though like being stuck in a fiscal situation or being a minority who doesn’t have resources. Those things really get to you and if you let them they become a huge part of your identity.

I don’t want it to become a part of mine.

I want to achieve the things I’ve been planning to do since I was a kid, I can’t let life kick me in the stomach for the umphteen time and just sit there and take it. I’m allowed to have hope and aspirations. And I should be allowed to achieve them no matter the situation.

This semester I made a decision, knowing where I stand as a minority citizen who doesn’t have a lot of connect nor money, I made a decision accepting the risk of failing. But I also made that descion knowing that I’d push myself not to give up no matter what bumps are in the road. Even if I’m on my last leg! I don’t want to give up.

I want to study abroad. It’s been my dream since I was a kid and Ive been accepted into my program of choice but right now I’m struggling financially. The program cost a lot and I don’t have the resources to fund it. There’s no one I can ask, there’s no loans I can take out. There scholarships and fasfa don’t disburse until after the trip, after I would need them.

I don’t want this to stop me. I don’t want to just say “Hey I got accepted to my program but I didn’t go!” I pray everyday that I’ll be able to go on this trip because it’s something I’ve set my mind too and something I’ve worked so hard for.

With all the being said, I’m asking all of my followers to donate as much as possible, a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter , or a dollar, or just the link to this post! I don’t care what it is I’ll be grateful either way.

calling all visitors, residents, or relatives who’ve been eyeing their sister’s literature choices warily: are you obsessed with john wayne cleaver, but unable to find anybody else who recognizes the name? do you find yourself rolling your eyes when a show gets something wrong about psychology or true crime? do you have at least one rant on characterization, shipping, or your fave’s death that has remained mental in lack of an audience? i have an idea.

through tag-hunting and reblogs, i’ve found a fair amount of people who love this series and/or the movie, but we’re scattered and disconnected. this network will function as a hub for the fandom i know exists out there, a sort of IANASK central to give existing fans a place to party and improve the future for new readers.
