“One time, I set water on fire — by accident!” from @clcmsywitch
"Accidentally?" Harry blinked in confusion "How..." Did he even want to know? Should he ask? There was a million different questions that came to mind right now but he had no idea if he should even bother asking half of them. "Set water on fire..." He had known Magic was capable of a great many things but still...
@clcmsywitch slides a note across the counter [...] ⠀❝ look at this pretty rock I found! ❞
* . ⸙ unprompted!
CAMILLE LOOKED UP FROM THE HALF-UNWRAPPED BOX IN HER LAP, THE SOUND OF OLD TISSUE PAPER STILL CRACKLING IN HER HANDS. She’d been elbow-deep in a donation shipment for the Hollow. It had been mostly junk so far, chipped candleholders and dusty glass bottles that probably hadn’t held anything useful in decades. But Mildred’s voice broke through the monotony like a spark.
A rock. Camille blinked once, then let the corner of her mouth tug up as she leaned forward. “ Hand it over, pretty please? ”, she said, setting the box aside.
When the stone landed in her palm, she turned it gently, inspecting the angles. It wasn’t polished, not in the way tourist shops tried to make everything glint under artificial light. This one was raw. Uneven. A strange shimmer across the surface that looked like it didn’t quite belong to any one color: silver, gray, the faintest suggestion of violet when she tilted it just so.
“ Oh, this one’s weird ”, she murmured, and it was clearly a compliment. She held it up toward the window where the sunlight caught it, watching as something flickered inside . . . not light exactly, but depth, like the rock had a center it didn’t want to show all at once.
“ Do you see that? ”, Camille asked Mildred, angling the rock for a better view, “ That’s not just quartz. Might be something else layered in . . . hmm, maybe feldspar, maybe something rarer ” Her eyes drifted back down to the surface, thumb brushing it again. The Hollow had taught her to trust her instincts, especially when they itched like this. Like something quiet was humming just under her skin.
@clcmsywitch ASKED:
“…Everyone thinks I’m a terrible witch!”
❝ OH . NO . i'm sure it can't be everybody . ❞ which , coming out of his mouth , doesn't actually sound terribly reassuring . his brows furrow and he waves a hand . ❝ no , what i MEAN , is that we all have things and places we can grow . perhaps - this is yours . ❞
“Mean? Says the judgy stranger, that’s what you are, judgy. Have you been watching me? You know it’s rude to stare right?” he asked, a shit-eating green spreading across his face, his eyes full of mischief to come. “Anything else to accuse me of cutie or you done for the day?” he asked with a raised eyebrow. Max was indeed a mean man, he enjoyed playing with humans, since he was turned the vast majority of them meant nothing to him, they were food, toys to be played with or a workforce to be put to maximum effectiveness. Whoever she was, he found it interesting and slightly amusing that in his mind, he thought she felt she had the right to judge him, a stranger. “Have we met before and I can’t remember? Used to happen a lot.”
Gabriel raised an eyebrow, his cold grey eyes flicking to the colourful, sugar-coated shapes in her palm. They looked absurd in his world of blood oaths and shadow magic—bright, wriggly little things meant to bring joy.
He tilted his head, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips. “Gummy worms?” he repeated, his tone edged with amusement and disbelief. “I prefer my worms... less cheerful.”
There was a pause. He took one from the bag anyway, holding it between two fingers like it was a strange artifact. “Tell me, do these wriggle when swallowed?”
"Is it possible for a witch to be afraid of heights?" Unprompted
