Day 87: Spring Cleaning the Closet
It's part three of the spring cleaning series! (Part 1: the inbox, Part 2: photos)
I've been doing a pretty stellar job of habitually cleaning my closet. It makes it easier that I rotate my clothes by season. Each season, I determine what I didn't wear, what I'd like to donate, and what I want to keep. The seasonal items I want to keep that are folded and stored.
However, this time, it's different.
I've decided that I want to have ALL of my items in my closet. All seasons, all things. I have a large walk-in closet that was made for two. When we moved into our house, it was decided that I would get the primary bathroom and closet. Husband uses the closet in his office room and the hallway bathroom (unrelated: separate bathrooms are the key to a happy marriage).
I have a lot of space. And I think I'm underutilizing it. Here's how I'm tackling this project:
Visual inventory of the items in my closet. I'm looking for items that are closet-related (shoes, clothing, accessories, suitcases) and those items that I'm just storing in the closet.
Remove items from closet that don't really belong. I have CDs, stuffed animals, beach towels, luggage I don't use, and more
Pull all clothing out of storage and bring into the closet. Actually, I might use my studio as a holding space so I can see everything I have and then move it into the closet
Purge - prep items for donation. I have several items I'm holding onto that I don't use/wear/need. It's officially time.
Clean items - this is a great opportunity to clean shoes, bags, purses
Put all items into the closet - I already have a great organizational system, so I'm hoping that with the reduction of even more items, I'm able to do this smoothly.
Ideally, I'd complete this task by the end of the week (April 4). I'll report back with an update!
WOD: 45 min bootcamp, 2 mile walk
Clean Closet = More Mental Space
At the end of this week spring will be upon us. This is the season of warmer temperatures with cool breezes, more hours of daylight, and more rainy days. During the early parts of the season, I often put away my heavy winter clothing and boots. I swap them out for loose clothing and lighter footwear. In the process of this swap comes a peace of mind as I declutter and rejuvenate my closets and…
Its amazing how many pieces of favorite clothing you find when you actually clean your closet.
Update
Not that anyone saw my last one, probably won't see this either, BUT! It's been a few hours since I finished but, my room and closet are clean and organized! It didn't seem that messy before, just a bit more than I expected really.
Now, just gotta try and keep it clean!
