lengthly yap about jay walker and morals, through the lens of his dragons rising arc under cut. s4 p1 spoilers
rogue jay is such a character study to me. bcus like the writing of his arc was. variable at best. largely rushed with a not insignificant focus on jaya. (not that i am complaining. my jaya playlist is almost as big as my jay playlist)
what i find the most interesting about it is the implications of all of it. and what that adds to jays character.
my personal "make it make sense" headcanon for rogue and nyas relationship being like it is initially is that rogue inexplicably feels safer around her. theres some sort of latent emotion that he cant name or figure out or examine closely at all. (terrifying for him)
i do think this follows in some capacity into the other ninja too, even if its just some sense of "i can trust them" that he might not even be able to explain or say if asked. idk just hes not a clean fresh slate fully (this scared him. hes had fabricated reality surrounding him for the last five years he doesnt know whats real or not)
and following that, now we can look at him working five years in the administration, a morally dubious organization focused on enforcing rules and regulations in ways that arent. terribly ethical. and he doesnt seem to have any qualms about this other than its fucking boring. hes a lil pathetic but theres no moral questioning there. hes agent jay walker, and hes bringing bonzle in. and then he gets distracted like the adhd fucker he is /aff
Jay has always been one of the more morally grey ninjas to me, iirc (its been a lil bit since i watched the show) the greater good isnt his top priority, his family is. in season 6 he gets temp leader position and immediately goes "we steal it". he does a similar thing in crystalized. he FIGHTS KAI about it. because he wants to save nya above the risk that aspheera might bring to ninjago.
anyways all of this to say if they sweep everything thats happened in the past few seasons under the rug like they seem to do in the last scene of s4 p1 im going to get Fucking Violent.
ive seen the rogue arc as the writers trying to reset his character from the flanderization of oni trilogy and beyond. and im lowkey scared that hes just going to go right back
