Headcanons of TWDG where Clem finds her s/o heavily injured in James’ barn and they live similar to how she does in Take Us Back?
THIS MAKES ME SO SAD OH NOOOOOO
Clementine had a bad gut feeling.
And it all had to do with the way Y/N vanished after their Delta fight.
The way they furiously abandoned her.
She needed to speak with them.
She needed to know they made it out okay.
So, once assured everyone at Ericson was safe, she left.
Explore around the Ericson grounds.
Praying they could be found safe.
“What are we looking for?”
“I don’t know. Anything.”
Clementine could tell he was worried too.
They both cared about Y/N.
They were family to them both.
By the time they hit James’ barn, Clem froze.
Her heart paralyzed in terror.
Her stomach twisting in on itself.
James never left the doors open.
He wanted the barn to be sacred.
Even if no walkers were inside.
Her voice was urgent and desperate.
AJ trotted up beside her.
All they heard was a faint groan,
Through their frantic searching,
And she started deeper in.
And her frozen heart started up erratically.
There, leaning on a barn wall, was Y/N.
One of their sleeves rolled up.
An aging walker bite swelling on their wrist.
Clementine collapses to her knees.
Her chest bubbling with sobs.
Her finger shaking as she skidded closer to the male.
Holding their arm in her palms.
Their voice was hoarse and faint.
Clementine shook her head.
Trying to get a better look through her tears.
Studying the green tint to their skin.
“AJ shouldn't be seeing this.”
Clementine studied the wound.
“How long ago did this happen?” She whispered.
Clementine took that as an answer.
One she knew she wouldn’t want to hear.
“We need to do something.”
“There’s nothing to do.” Y/N said softly.
Shifting nervously from foot to foot.
“Clementine taught me a way.”
Clementine’s gut churned.
She closed her eyes and looked away.
“Cutting it off.” She breathed.
Her voice wavering and terrified.
Y/N’s breath hitched in their throat.
“It’ll save you.” AJ said.
And Y/N hated how calm he sounded.
Voice desperate and quivering.
“We won’t do it if you don’t want us to. But,”
“It’s the only way we can save you.”
There was a beat of silence.
And glanced between the two of them.
Their stomach twisting in knots as they thought.
The risk of dying regardless.
But, really, what did they have to lose?
Clementine urgently searched the barn for everything they needed.
Clementine found an old belt.
Clementine took a deep breath.
Clasping onto Y/N’s hand.
While AJ readied the axe.
Clementine blocked out a lot of what happened next.
But through her tears and sobs, she worked.
Clementine worked desperately to save them.
To save and salvage everything she could.
“You’re going to be okay, Y/N.” She whispered.
Squeezing his hand with one hand.
Pushing the wheelbarrow with them in it in the other.
Head resting on Clementine’s jacket as a pillow.
Dipping forward to place a kiss to their forehead.
Feeling them hum sweetly under her lips.
But really, they believed it.
They all believed Clementine was right.
And as they walked, AJ reached over to hold Y/N’s hand too.
They were going to be okay.
