on chrom and his protective attitude.

this seemed like a good thing to bring up now tbh!! (gestures wildly at lissa and lucina.)

it’s not really a secret that when chrom cares, he cares deeply. to the point of rash, reckless behavior to the point where you question his self-preservation instincts if people he cares about are threatened. but this really is amplified ten-fold with his own family. his parents died, emmeryn died, and he’s left with lissa as the only family he has left in the world. of course, as a big brother, he has always been a bit protective of her, but when it’s just down to the two of them, it gets so much worse. sure he has the shepherds and all, but as far as true family goes, lissa is literally all he has left.

and sure then he gets married and has someone else to be grossly protective of, but then lucina happens. he’s brought this new life into the world and my god he just wants her to be so safe and happy because that’s his little baby right there. and so he is, of course, a little more protective than he used to be.

and then he finds out about the future. how all his friends died, how lissa died, how he died, leaving that little baby girl alone in the world, without a family. just like he would have been had he lost lucina. i think at that point, he reaches a bit of a personal low of sorts, and at that point he would be most likely to throw his own life away in a second if it meant saving the life of lissa, lucina, or his wife. (or even their feelings for that matter; he wants to save them from all the horrors of the world, no matter how big or small.) because all he cares about at that point is changing the future for them, so they never have to be afraid of losing everything, like he had been.

and that is the story of how chrom’s protective instincts snowball until he basically becomes self-destructive in regards to those he cares about uvu
