hey hey hey! i hv an ask ab clethel because I ADORE THEIR FRIENDSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!! ok so obv we now know ethel eventually gets her happily ever after with that hunk lysander mercury. my q is, at any point in ethel’s trying to prove her friendship with cledwyn, did she ever get a little crush on him, even if it only lasted a week? thx ur the goat!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Hi HMH!!!!! 💛 the great thing about Ethel is that she’s such an obnoxious but well-meaning brat that all her interactions have great potential for comedy. Obviously, Lysander is a hottie (hands up if Leo DiCaprio was your first ever crush 🙋🏽‍♀️) but there is a great chemistry between Ethel and Cled as well, even if it has only ever been completely and entirely platonic.

Or has it?! Cledwyn didn’t admit that he actually enjoyed Ethel’s company until their fifth year, and it was really only in their sixth year (by which point Ethel had noticeably calmed down and matured) that they became really close. Close to the point that the Hogwarts rumour mill had churned out some salacious gossip on the subject (I’m going to blame Anastasia and Lysander for this).

This actually made Ethel think: perhaps in pursuing Cledwyn as a friend, she had gone too far (she often took things too far). Perhaps she had unintentionally caused him to fall in love with her. Having discussed the matter in depth with her best friend and soul-sister Selene, the two girls came to the conclusion that this probably wasn’t such a bad thing. After all, Cledwyn was nice fellow deep down, he was a good quidditch player, and not bad to look at, either (I mean, have you seen Kit Harrington’s bum? It is PEACHY 🍑). No, this all worked out quite perfectly…

That was, of course, until Ethel raised the issue with Cled himself, and was informed with the utmost clarity that Cledwyn absolutely and categorically did not have feelings for her, that he never had, and never would. After a moment of indignation at the extremely blunt and definite nature of Cledwyn’s rejection, she was overcome with an emotion representing relief, rather than disappointment. Her brief infatuation was all but forgotten instantly.

Neither of them ever spoke of it again.

1) What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re…hot…”

5) How do they consciously realize that they like the other character? Does it take them a while?

1) Reuben first really noticed how pretty Leila was after she comforted him when he was scared out of the DADA classroom by his boggart (his nan calling him a disappointment). Leila really became attracted to Reuben over the summer between fourth and fifth year when she realised she really missed him.

12. Dress your MC and their friend up as a fictional pair of friends.

So, I reckon Ethel would think it an EXCELLENT idea for her and Cled to dress up as Tiny Tim and Eberneezer Scrooge, respectively. She’d probably even try to talk him into putting on a play of the book for the other Gryffindors at Christmas. Cledwyn would refuse. Ethel would tell him that this is why he’d make a perfect Scrooge. He would sigh heavily.

16. Your MC and their friend cast a patronus at the same time. How do their patronuses interact?

Ethel’s patronus is a Parson Jack Russell terrier. It would do what terriers do best - terrorise Cled’s wolf patronus. In a friendly way, of course. Expect lots of bouncing, play-bowing, tail-wagging and gentle ankle-biting from Ethel’s patronus. Cled’s patronus would begrudgingly tolerate this behaviour, after first standing stock still with its hackles up and teeth bared. Wait, are we still talking about patronuses?
