I’ve known these two people for years, a guy and his sister. And I only realised just now that they were called Luke and Leia. Of course I knew, I just hadn’t made the connection…
H+ episode one. Sort of semi-review-but-I-can't-quite-be-bothered thing behind the cut:
I just watched the first two episodes of H+ (the first of which is above), and I am extremely impressed. If you're a sci-fi fan, I would get on it. The Hplus chip, implanted directly into your brain, allows human beings to link directly into the internet with their minds. The apps we use on our iPhones are suddenly holographic images in front of our eyes, controllable with our fingers outstretched in mid-air. I'd just like to point out that I still make fun of people who use bluetooth headsets, so if this technology ever exists I am going have a field day over how stupid everyone looks waving their hands in the air, flicking through a Twitter feed no one else can see. Anyway, the internet is in your brain. Literally. I don't even need to tell you how this all goes wrong (and I mean more wrong than you never, ever exiting Tumblr).
It features some familiar actors who are unfortunately not present in the first two episodes, namely Alexis Denisof (Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, HIMWY) and Hannah Simone (New Girl), both of whom I am excited to see in this series.
H+ seems to have a high standard of production, with explosions and amazing CGI for the characters' personal digital interfaces, but how long it will stay that way is questionable. A web series isn't the most stable platform, financially speaking, but for now the effects are very impressive. Halfway through the first episode I started having really visceral reactions to what was going on on-screen; I was becoming so anxious I was feeling ill. It's possible that it was because of the excellent lighting and sound production, but probably it was that I had just wolfed down a plate of chow mien in 5 seconds flat. The point is, visceral reactions were happening. H+ does have some good names behind it, so the future could be bright. Produced by Bryan Singer and backed by Warner Bros., I'm really hoping it doesn't fizzle out.
