But it’s true? Anakin’s final moments as “Anakin” were pathetic and he’s a Skywalker boy. And Kylo is similar to Azula. I’m not saying he won’t be redeemed, but he’s not going to get from “Supreme Leader” to “hugging the heroes” in just one movie. Zuko only got power like that after he’d already redeemed himself. Crait seemed like he was on the verge of an Azula-ish meltdown. He could redeem himself or he could end up a pathetic screaming mess, or die a villain to clear the way for Palpatine.
It’s not true, don’t be ridiculous. Becoming the hero through an act of selflessness and then dying in Luke’s arms while Luke weeps over him and the whole thing is played at a Shakespearean register of dignity is not pathetic. And then he is revealed whole and healed as a Force ghost so we can leave him smiling. Anakin is absolutely lionised in his final moments on screen (which weren’t in the PT, they were in RotJ).
I’ve never seen Avatar, so you should take of the details of your comparison up with @benperorsolo and her follow up posts but as to the gist of it: lol nonsense. He had a meltdown and then it ended, we didn’t leave him on that note. And then there was an entire film left to go. SW covers emotional ground fast, it’s nothing short of ludicrous to suggest there isn’t time. There will be radical change and it will be definitive. This isn’t a television series with time to waste and this is the ending- we will get the big pay-off.
No, he cannot end up a mess or die to ‘clear the way’ for Palpatine (what does this even mean? he’s not and has never been in the same category as Palpatine- Snoke died to clear the way for Palpatine). He is THE LEGACY and happy ending of the original trilogy. His character embodies the thematic core of Star Wars and must be reclaimed or the entire ST is a desecration of everything this story has been about. He is ‘the other half of our protagonist’ and is on a coming of age journey.
