September 25, 2024 - Black-tailed Treecreeper (Climacteris melanurus) Found in parts of northern and western Australia, in two separate ranges, these Australasian treecreepers live in open eucalyptus forests and savannas, sometimes near water. They eat arthropods, especially ants and beetles, and probably also some nectar, usually picking their prey from tree trunks and large branches. Breeding between June and January and probably raising two broods a year, they build their nests from fur, grass, and feathers in tree cavities or stumps. Females lay clutches of one to three eggs and likely incubate them alone. One or more helper birds may assist the breeding pair.
