November 23, 2022 - Rufous Treecreeper (Climacteris rufus) These treecreepers are found in open woodland and scrub in southwestern Australia. They eat mostly ants, as well as other insects and invertebrates, such as beetles, wasps, and dragonflies, and also sometimes feed on small lizards, seeds, and nectar. Breeding from August to January, pairs are joined by up to six helpers. Females build cup-shaped nests from bark strips, dry grass, and sometimes dung, assisted by their mates and the helper birds. They incubate the eggs while the others bring them food. Both parents and helpers feed the chicks.
