Silent Hill Origins (2007)

Silent Hill: Origins (Silent Hill Zero in Japan) is a 2007 survival horror game developed by Climax Action and published by Konami Digital Entertainment. It was released worldwide in late 2007 for the PlayStation Portable and later got a PS2 port. The fifth installment in the Silent Hill series, Origins is a prequel to the original Silent Hill (1999). Set in the series' eponymous, fictional American town, Origins follows trucker Travis Grady as he searches for information about a girl whom he rescued from a fire. Along the way, he unlocks his repressed childhood memories.

While the player can acquire firearms and ammunition in Silent Hill: Origins, they tend to be fairly rare, with the vast majority of weapons they can find throughout the game being either melee or single-use items, all of which are breakable. While this means the player is frequently required to seek out replacement items, it adds a separate layer of horror to the existing world design. Instead of just ignoring non-essential paths, the player instead must risk either forging ahead with only what they already have, or take a chance on searching other locations for new items without encountering more monsters.
