My two beautiful ‘Climbing Iceberg’ roses are in the middle of their third flush in my front yard right now. Because of the ongoing heat and because I haven’t fertilized them lately the blooms are only half of their normal size, but to make up for that both roses are completely free of powdery mildew in the moment. I wouldn’t have complained anyways. Any rose that manages to bloom during what feels like the hottest summer ever is a winner in my book! The ‘Climbing Iceberg’ roses that are flanking our garage have reached the peak of their spring flush. ‘Iceberg’ roses are easy to grow, very reliable, and floriferous here in Southern California and I do believe they have one of the fastest rebloom ability in rose kingdom. I don’t spray my roses and they do get some powdery mildew in my garden but their performance does not seem to be diminished by that. The color starts out as a white with a very lovely yellow tint, but becomes a pure creamy white as the blooms unfold. They also have a nice mild fragrance which reminds me of fresh apples. When the blooms are fully open the stamens are exposed, which makes them a favorite for the bees. For me ‘Iceberg’ roses, the climbing form and the shrub rose are the ultimate California roses!
