Climb Down

A physical and mental training package for MPs

Democracy is changing faster than it ever has before, but still slowly. We still have MPs, and many of them are incompetent at expressing their views in contemporary media fora.

It was whilst listening to Jeremy Corbyn on Woman’s Hour that Laura Loomis was inspired by this fast, and yet slow, pace of change. Laura was working in innovation at the Cabinet Office, but she was conscious that no useful innovation could happen there, so she quickly resigned to create Climb Down.

Climb Down is physical and mental training programme for parliamentarians of all stripes, based at Vauxhall climbing centre. MPs in harness are hoisted to the summit of the wall, and must physically climb down, whilst at the same time back tracking from a policy in their party’s manifesto.

“It develops both muscle memory, and memory,” says Laura, “and it’s really satisfying watching ministers suff... learn.” She adds.
