The day had been slow, seeming to last forever as Marie was sat having worked on grading the student’s latest tests. With a sigh she set her pen down, leaning over the small stack of papers she had left. Only 20 or so tests remained, the rest neatly piled beside her on the desk.

She enjoyed being a teacher due to the engagement with the students, being able to help them understand new material, how their eyes lit up when everything clicked. It all made it worthwhile to Marie, feeling like she had done something right in the end. Yet the paperwork that came with it all... that she could do without.

The gentle sound of music in her ears through headphones relaxed Marie, her eyes drifting shut as she crossed her arms and laid on top of the remaining papers. Just a moment of rest was what was needed, her head heavy and vision having been merging words together.

Maybe she needed more than a moment, but she would relax into the sound of her music for now. The familiar tempo and lyrics welcome as Marie let them wash over her instead of ignoring it.

She hadn’t been keeping track of time and so didn’t even know what time it was, nor did she think to check. All she needed was to take a break and finish her work in a few minutes, after that she would focus on whatever came next.

Something large was gripping her, that's the first thing Marie noticed as she awoke. As she opened her eye her vision seemed off, but as it focused on the person above her she tried to shuffle away in terror. She wanted to scream, but her voice caught in her throat.

The person above her had a screw through his head and stitching down the left side of his face. He was so close and evidently it was his hands that were on her; she couldn't run if she tried. Blinking at the stranger above her she took a second to breath, instead frowned at the man, terror still coloring her features, but now she was concerned. Clearing her throat she finally found the ability to speak, voice strained.

"Who are you?"

                           “I DON’T REALLY KNOW ANYMORE, I used to be okay with the thought of letting ––––– someone I trusted be able to maybe, clean my system of junk.” Alex gestured to himself, one conspicuously MALLEABLE hand flat against his chest. “It squicks people out, but lately, pulling the jewelry and shit out is something I rely on myself to do.”

Return from the darkness

Dante knocked on the door to Stein’s house, hoping the stitched scientist was home... Or hell, that he even still lived there. The demon hunter suspected Stein wasn’t the type to leave behind such complementary real estate behind that he always felt was the perfect fit for Stein....But Dante would hate feeling embarrassed if someone else answered the door. It of course had been a very long while since Dante was seen by anyone.

“S-S-Steiny boy”

Dante leaned against the door frame... and in a less stylish way he was known to have. He was weak..but not entirely helpless. More dazed than anything it seemed. His gaze...no matter where he looked, appeared if everything was out of focus to him.

Dante knocked again.

“Steiny boy”

Dante was unsure of himself as his hand reached up to his head....and compulsively started twisting an oversized bolt that had been drilled into his head.... Just like Stein’s.

“Is there a reason why you can’t sleep?”

Jumping Marie turned to look at Stein, having not heard him enter the room. She had been making a pot of coffee and was too tired to care about her surroundings initially. Turning back to the coffee maker she grabbed her mug and started filling it, not caring about adding anything to it tonight.

“I’m behind on paperwork again, and I need to catch up. Plus I’m almost done with my book, and I’m dying to know how it ends.”
