You're Welcome Tour: Portland
Okay. It's been a few days, I've thought it out over and over again and here are my thoughts on the Youre Welcome show I saw on Sunday (1.14.18). The show was at Keller Auditorium, which is a great theater. I was very happy the gang got to do their show there. The line was wrapped around the building twice almost by the time i got there, but everyome in line was nice. I didnt talk (ive been mostly nonverbal the past few days) but what i eavesdropped was lovely. People complimenting each other, making new friends, holding doors, etc. Overall, lovely crowd. Outside the volume wasnt too bad, and leading into the venue it got slightly louder but the typical pre-show/event level of noises. Nah biggie.
I sat down in my seat about 25 min before the show started and I just played around on my phome til the show started. The lights lowered and the audience exploded it felt like. I went to the Game Grumps shpw when they passed through Portland in 2017 and it wasnt even half as loud as this show. The first cheer/scream at Marks show nearly had me bolting for the doors. High pitch noises make my inner ear stuff shake around and it causes me pain and I. Forgot. My. Headphones.
I have a pair of over the ear noise cancelling headphones (theyre super cool and block out noises that arent speaking voices ) that i really really should have brought considering the crowd. So, back to the show. Mark did his intro monologue and the show began. This is where I know I'm gonna get some anon hate i just know it.
Okay, so. Like.
I wasn't a huge fan of the show. Like, yes there were some really funny lines but mostly it was....eh. I honestly don't know what I would have found funnier, content wise, i just know it didnt catch me like his videos normally do. Maybe it's just because it's a fresh show? Like if they go on tour again and really iron out the kinks, then I'll pay $75 to see them again. It just....fell flat. Idk. It wasnt worth $75 to go be bored at a show while my ears are beimg assualted just bc a shirt came off. Idk. Maybe ill just stick to videos at home haha.
(Quick end notes: I really enjoyed their improv switch game??? Whatever its called. The one where Dave/Dan/Soundguy would ring a bell and the gang would have to switch their last sentence?? Idk how to describe it but that was the best part of the show hands down. Id like to see more content like that on their various channels)
