Nobody understands Clock BFB/TPOT like I do. He is so autism and bpd.

He is a dreadful self-sabotaging clock. It’s so devastating to me. Imagine you find a group where you are all so passionate about the same thing, you’d do anything for them, even if you’re scared. You happily help win challenges and expect nothing in return but the bond you’ve made.

Imagine memorizing everybody who needs to be revived, only for everyone to forget you when you need it. Imagine bitterly leaving all your old friends behind and trying to recreate the bond you had only to realize nobody else shares this interest with you and your obsession with not letting anybody go forgotten causes you to treat others around you wrong.

AUGH he is such a devastating character. We’ve never seen Clock form a bond where he isn’t forgotten or just found annoying (besides like. Ice Cube???? If we want to count that??????) and it’s just so sad to me. Even if it’s his own fault sometimes! (when he’s annoying at least)

Like. It’s awful because I don’t think he changed between BFB and TPOT outside of how the death thing affected him. I see stuff sometimes like “clock is a simp” or “why is he so different” but he isn’t he just isn’t around the same objects he hanged out with a few days- wait no. Months ago. He actually is an odd one out now. If he was on the Losers, he would be acting normal. But the fact is, this is an intense interest. He is not around people who have said interest anymore. His behavior is seen as weird.

Not all famous people find themselves loving the attention of it, some do. Clock assumes Winner must feel the same as Loser, he’s wrong. Even though he’s wrong, he isn’t exactly different.

I think he wanted the Losers but didn’t want to be in it with his friends who’d forgotten about him. But the fact is, besides them, nobody else was as passionate about Loser, and nobody else was especially passionate about Winner.

SIGH. Anyways Winner does deserve better this isn’t in defense of Clock he was in the wrong definitely. But I don’t think he had malicious intent, nor do I think he was out of character to do something wrong. I just think he wasn’t thinking straight tbh.

I REALLY. Wish Jacknjellify could’ve expanded on him more because there was so much potential that went ignored imo. Still hoping for Clock and One arc 🙏

Part of me is tempted to just rewrite BFB and TPOT from Clock’s POV because I NEED people to understand my vision

One thing I like about object characters is I can project stuff onto them in a really disconnected and metaphorical way so people can’t tell as much that I’m projecting something. Especially clocks I love projecting onto clocks

Clocks “normally” being on time is important to me because it means I can make them off time as a metaphor for “not being normal”. I use being off time mostly as a metaphor for mental illness/disability, though not necessarily anything specific. Some days I use it to project autism experiences, some days I use it to project PTSD, some days it’s stuff like masking and abuse. It just works perfectly to me. Losing track of time, feeling frozen in time, wishing a moment would just be over, feeling like you have to present a certain way to be accepted by society- it all just works really well with clocks.

It is also just a really fun thing to mess around with. In my more full pieces of art, I often DO pay attention to what time I’m giving my clocks.

-After Ring dies, Pink Clock gets stuck at 3 o’clock, the time “it” happened. However, even before the incident, Pink Clock always seems to struggle a bit with staying on time.

-in a lot of art I will put two clocks with one another with different times, to show that at least one of them is wrong.

-Different clocks feel different levels of shame around being on-time. Timey I imagine is much more ashamed/embarrassed of being off-time than Pink Clock is overall

-(though Pink Clock hates it for the reminder, like a physical manifestation of the guilt stained on his conscience 😇)

Obviously this doesn’t apply to fictional alarm clocks okay.

But I think one thing I really like in clock designs is usability and clarity.

HOWEVER!!!!! This isn’t to say there is anything wrong with getting clocks for visual purposes! I love fancy pendulum clocks, and cuckoo clocks, etc. they’re great, they’re beautiful, and they’re lovely. Roman numerals make it look fancy and dignified yes yes.

HOWEVER!!!!! Those ones, imo, aren’t always the best for usability. I mean, if you like to hear a chime telling you 15 minutes have passed, I suppose that could be helpful if you struggle with keeping track (though as somebody who lives in a house with a grandfather clock, it’s pretty tuned out)

I’ve never really liked serif fonts on clocks, unless the clock is meant to be more artistic. If the clock is fancy yeah use the serif font. Use the Roman numerals.

But I think if you want your clock to be easy to use you’re going to want a nice easy-to-read sans-serif font. Preferably dark text on white background, but if you’re feeling creative and like making your clock dark mode, I fully support because that sounds like it could have some really cool potential. Make an arcade core clock yeah. But anyways, sans-serif fonts could be more readable, and also you can still stylize and get creative! You can play with colors, light and dark fonts and backgrounds! You can be very experimental with a clock design.

I’ve always preferred traditional(?) clocks over digital ones. I like to see the arc of how much time there is, it’s like you can see the amount physically rather than just as a number. Ah yes, a quarter is 15 minutes!! Half is 30!! Thrilling!! However, if you can’t read clocks or just prefer the digital appearance then using a digital one is fine 👍 if that’s preferred for you then go ahead, traditional clocks are very intricate.

That being said, I think it’s . Well. I’m not saying it’s entirely necessary, but I have a clock that doesn’t have the little tick marks for the minutes and it bothers me… THOSE ARE THERE FOR A REASON!!!!! Your clock not having the tick marks lowers the clock score in my head.

Hand shapes are also very fun. They can also be different shapes and colors . A lot of them have those weird water drop shaped pointer hands (?) but some will have (thick) rectangles or triangle-like shapes. While I think the tear drop shaped ones (idk what they’re called.) are probably one of the best for clarity since they are so precise, I’m not necessarily against the others, because it is nice to have variety and see how different clocks are stylized. But I’d probably choose triangle-like hands over (thick) rectangle ones if I wanted to use the clock. Some clocks will just have little stick hands which is also okay, just kinda boring.

As for alarm clocks… I think making the alarm hand a different color and/or shape is good for usability because it’s less confusing than if you make it look similar to the other hands. I think an alarm clock that rings will probably work better than one that beeps because it is more startling (in my opinion.)

I don’t think clock ticking is too much of a factor on whether the clock gets more points. But sometimes the sound of ticking admittedly stresses me out 😭 I know I love clocks but I don’t wanna hear every second that passes idk 😭 if I’m choosing to listen to it, I’ll love it, it sounds great, that is the heartbeat of the clock, beautiful. But . If you prefer hands that don’t tick I understand 😭

Anyways. Redbubble people. FOR THR LOVE OF GOD. Why are you plastering images onto clocks. If anything Grinds my Gears. It’s people putting random images onto clocks. This is a thing, full of gears, made to tell time, and you’re making it completely unreadable, unusable. It doesn’t even look good most of the time. Just sell it as a print. The pain I feel when I see a redbubble clock that just has a random image on it.. at least put some ticks.. or numbers.. or something… sighs…

Pocket watches are kind of like clock mollusks… that guy has a shell!

But watches are like butterfly because they have wings. Maybe even a hummingbird

The clock that sits on the desk (that isn’t an alarm clock) might be a cat or maybe some sort of rodent.

Digital clock is a robot.

Wall clock…. Idk. A bug or starfish or something. Idk cuz its kinda big but why is it on the wall how is it doing that

Pendulum clocks that hang on the wall are like monkeys cuz they have little tails . Unless they’re the cat shaped one which is a cat (strange flying cat…) if they have a bird then. Idk guys . I don’t think that makes them a bird but . Shrug.

The grandfather clocks I thibk resemble giant squid (just missing tentacles) (I have a giant squid grandfather clock oc design actually I just haven’t rlly used it) (Big Ben is probably like the kraken ?!)

Alarm clocks I associate with mice but that is partly as a joke . Maybe they can be koala. Or a bear. OR. A rooster but they aren’t shaped like one its just like . They wake you up.

Nixie tube clock is like a firefly =]

Clock stylization my beloved . One of my fav things is to see how different people stylize clock characters. Even though I don’t rlly do it, I find the little circle in the middle to be so cute🩵🩵🩵

This is like the clock equivalent to drawing a bunch of different eye styles btw

This isn’t even going into the potential for color combinations and how to/whether to represent numbers !!!
