sad headcanon time: only officers, ARC troopers and commandos are officially taught how to read by the kaminoans. the rest only pick up the slightest bits of aurebesh (aka only teach themselves how to spell their names, learn their CT number, etc.) when anakin and some other jedi (obi wan, plo, etc.) find out, they go ballistic and immediately arrange for all their troops to be taught the alphabet. and, headcanoning that slaves on tattooine also didn’t know how to read, this hits home for ani :(
