A small joke I have between Dutch friends if I am not busy shitalking Dutch landscape’s lack of anything higher than a bump in the street, nothing serious though. 

Due deabting I came to visit quiet a lot of Dutch cities. The Old towns are marvelous, amost like idyll paintings (Delft is gorgeous *__*) but modern architecture is formed in shapes of cubes, that I felt first very weirded out when arriving in Rotterdam, or leaving Den Haag Centraal.But it’s not meant that earnestly, modern architecture can look a lot worse *cough* people thinking Le Corbusier was creative and radical, as if *cough*

Isn’t that Snow White? I meant the one with the spindle and the roses. That one came to mind because it has both the elements of someone saving the maiden at the end and the tower. It’s also the /only/ one I can think of, so I do agree with you that the stereotype is weird at best. I also agree that the prince and the quest of saving the maiden never seems to be the center of the story, but more a mere closing act on the trials of the heroine.

But thinking of it, the Disney version is the only story I actively remember presenting that trope without any compromise. But you’re, this is perhaps the most active pursuing prince figure as focal point of the story, and the most passive princess figure of the Grimm fairy tale collection as well as as she is in Perault’s first defining version.

Ohh, if you mean Den Haag and Rotterdam I totally get what you mean. Especially the central government buildings that surround Den Haag Centraal tend to be truly ugly. You should have a look at the Leiden University Library (or the LUMC) building (if you haven’t already), that is also some spectacular ugly architecture.

Weeeeellllll… I feel I have no right to judge since my study place isn’t the incarnation of breath taking architecture either BUT the stark contrast between the well maintianed old buildings and the modern forms are… bewildering. At some point I don’t even know if I find it ugly, it’s simply looks odd to me, as if I am walking in a sci-fi-setting from the 1920s where cubic forms and flowing lines were considered the most modern design (and still are..). 

Haven’t been in Leiden yet, but I surely have the opportunity if they organize another tournament. On second thought it might be a bit unfair to compliment Delft but shittalk Leiden xD
