PNW MUTUALS ASSIST!
So I’m starting an illustration project for a Columbia Sportswear logo piece featuring historic structures on Mt. Hood or in the Mt. Hood Wilderness area (plus a few that I couldn’t possibly leave out like The Vista House). This is where I grew up and I feel like these places are a vital part of my history and identity as a mountain girl. So far I have little icons drawn out for Devil’s Peak fire lookout, Clear Lake fire lookout, Silcox Warming Hut, the McNeil Point Shelter, Skibowl Warming Hut, Cloud Cap Inn, Tilly Jane A-frame, Timberline Lodge (a bit obvious and in your face this one, but it is an important landmark so...) and as I said before the Vista House at Crown Point. Here’s my dilemma: first of all it’s almost 5 AM and my brain is struggling to stay conscious, and second and more importantly I know there’s a ton more historic structures, but I can’t for the life of me think of what they are. Okay, you know when your driving up to Timberline after turning off at Govy, and off to the right somewhere in the forest there’s a good-sized lodge sitting back in there. The only way to reach it is to hike in (during the non-snowy season) or snowshoe/ cross country ski in. I know exactly where it is but I CAN NOT remember what it is called! Anyone??? Also do we consider the Mazama Lodge a historic structure? What about the Huckleberry Inn? I have some fond memories there but does it count?
