11. Clouds of Glory

After we had a nice meal, we got back into the bus. Shaheen seemed to be a good girl. My journey was going good so far. Shaheen was from Gujarat and she was settled in Mumbai for the last 10 years. She was a short and pretty lady. She had the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen. They were as if they are reflecting the purity of her soul. She told me that she owned a clothing store in Mumbai and she usually comes to Hyderabad to pick up clothes for her store. She was going to go to VT to get a local train to the area where she lived. She promised to drop me to VT. I was happy that I found someone who was ready to help me. Afterall, the world outside wasn’t that bad.

I tried sleeping on the bus after that and I couldn’t sleep at all. I kept moving from one side to the other. I was so anxious. I couldn’t think straight at all. It was a tough night. I closed my eyes for a while and the driver made another stop. It was 11:30 pm in the night and we were in the middle of nowhere. The breeze was cold, and the sky was filled with stars. The moon was half covered in clouds and it looked beautiful. The sense of freedom was filling my soul with joy. I didn’t want this journey to end. I kept thinking about what I would do after reaching Mumbai. Would I make it? Would I be safe? I just kept thinking about it all the while.
