nolan was in a hurry. he had gotten distracted attempting to keep up up with the impeachment hearings and, in the process, was running late for his american foreign policy lecture. “fuck,” he exclaimed as he felt his body hit another, papers going flying. “sorry, let me help you with that.”

“i’m up, i’m up,” brittany jumped up from where she was face down on her book. really, she should have headed back to her dorm when she felt herself drifting, but her teachers didn’t consider hangovers or ‘having been at a party where someone was murdered’ as a valid excuse to fall behind on school work. she looked around for the source of the noise that woke her.

“ WELL I WASN’T GOING TO COME. ” stas’ replied to the person who she somehow had been roped into a conversation with, as always, not of her own doing. she kept her drink loosely in her hand, her eyes surveying the ball for a moment before she threw her long brunette locks over her shoulder with a light, content sigh. “ but then i reminded myself of who the fuck i was and decided it was for the best i honored everyone with my presence. ” she remarked. well, she wasn’t wrong. there was an aura of effortless perfection around her and when she wanted to show up somewhere, she was going to make sure it was on everybody's lips that she was there.

The whole affair had been shrouded in falsities. It was a giant game that everyone had agreed to play, even though hardly anyone understood the rules. They had all agreed to light candles, wear black, and keep permanently sullen faces on as they entered and exited. The whole campus was struck with a shift in atmospheric pressure that wore down on every single person who attended their university. Lincoln couldnt wait for the fake sympathy that people held for the girl that no one seemed to care for before this to dissipate as easily as he blew out his candle. It was merely boredom at this point, blow out the candle, relight it, repeat. He had flicked his lighter and started the process once more before spotting the look on the persons face next to him “am I bothering you?” he asked with a smirk, in desperate need of banter, of conversation, of anything that didnt revolve around the girl he hardly knew but for some reason he pretended to give any sort of thought to the idea she was gone. He blew out his candle once more.

the male truly didn’t want to be where he was right now. in a group of people who either barely knew the chick or hated her. he felt no guilt. no grief. nothing for the girl who had just passed and wondered if it made him a bad person for it. he wanted to be in bed or somewhere else doing something other than this. he had managed to sneak off and away from the group of people who were sharing pointless stories and memories of the passing to lean against a tree and try to light a joint. if he was going to be here, he might as well be high for it. he cleared his throat and took out his light as he lit the joint, taking a deep hit as he watched some of the people walk by with candles. @cloverstarters​
